Job Overview: The Private Sector Partnership International United Nations Volunteer (IUNV) position is designed to strengthen UNICEF Gambia's marketing and analytical work regarding the private sector and philanthropy landscape assessment. The role involves contributing to the development of partnerships with the Government of Japan and supporting the Communication, Advocacy, and Partnerships unit. The IUNV will engage in private sector landscape analysis, identify potential donors and partners, and assist in organizing dialogues aligned with the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) goals. The position requires a proactive approach to resource mobilization and partnership development, ensuring that UNICEF's objectives are met effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the Communication, Advocacy, and Partnerships team with private sector landscape analysis and engagement in The Gambia and the wider West Africa Region.
Organize Private Public Partnership (PPP) dialogues aligned with TICAD goals.
Assist in reporting and grant management for the Government of Japan’s TICAD grant.
Conduct private sector mapping and analytical research to identify prospective donors and partners.
Maintain and update a dynamic database of private sector partners.
Develop strategic papers for private sector resource mobilization.
Coordinate and implement the Private Public Sector dialogue forum, engaging partners from both public and private sectors.
Document outputs of the PPP dialogue and analyze lessons learned.
Provide high-quality narrative and financial reporting to the donor, ensuring compliance with donor reporting SOPs. 1
Coordinate donor engagements and support the development of internal and external briefing documents. 1
Perform additional duties as assigned by office management to ensure effective execution of private sector partnership priorities.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a deep understanding of the private sector landscape in The Gambia and West Africa. They should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values, with a focus on equity and children's rights. The candidate should be adaptable, able to work in a team, and possess strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively. A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders are essential.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in business administration, international relations, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. The candidate should have a solid understanding of partnership development and resource mobilization strategies, particularly in the context of international development and humanitarian work.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in partnership development, private sector engagement, or resource mobilization. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNICEF or similar agencies, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the private sector landscape in The Gambia and West Africa will be an asset, along with experience in grant management and reporting.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the official language of The Gambia. Knowledge of local languages such as Mandinka and Wolof would be advantageous, as it can facilitate communication with local stakeholders and partners.
Additional Notes: This position is a full-time role based in Banjul, The Gambia. The UN Volunteer will be expected to adapt to local living conditions and cultural practices.
