Job Overview: This internship is located in Beirut, Lebanon, and the Intern will be reporting to the Deputy Regional Director. The role is designed to provide practical experience in the field of environmental management and administration within a global organization. The Intern will be expected to assist in various administrative and operational tasks that support the UNEP's mission and objectives. Duties and Responsibilities: The Intern will be expected to carry out a variety of duties and responsibilities, which may include, but are not limited to: assisting in organizing action and work plans in areas of human resources, financial management, travel, procurement, office management, and general administration; sourcing, gathering, and organizing data for the development or update of Standard Operating Procedures, Guidelines, checklists, templates, and Orientation Booklet specific to the West Asia Office; updating inventory, staffing tables, staff profiles/folders, staff directories, tracking sheets, and other electronic filing systems/records; monitoring the progress of action plans and following up with relevant offices at HQ, UNON, and other service providers; assisting in the day-to-day management of office logistical operations and inventory of assets; obtaining quotations; preparing monthly and other ad-hoc financial reports, budget monitoring reports, and following up on payments with UNON/Budget and Financial Management Services; preparing cost estimates and status of open commitments; and carrying out any other additional duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the administrative unit.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in environmental sciences, business or public administration, social science, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">environmental law, or a related field. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, but a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship being applied for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or being enrolled in or having completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as environmental sciences, business or public administration, social science, environmental law, or related disciplines. Proof of enrollment or completion will be required during the application process.
Experience: While professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship, applicants should have a field of study that is closely related to the internship they are applying for. This means that candidates should ideally have some academic background or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities and duties outlined in the internship description.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is required for this position.
