Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed to support the UN's Youth Activities in North Macedonia, particularly in the context of the Youth 2030 Strategy. The intern will work closely with the Partnerships and Development Finance Officer and the Communication and Advocacy Officer at the United Nations Resident Coordinator Office. The role involves assisting in the organization and implementation of activities related to the UN Youth Advisory Board, analyzing data related to youth in North Macedonia and the Western Balkan region, and contributing to the coordination of youth-focused initiatives supported by the UN Country Team (UNCT). The intern will also play a vital role in updating the UN Partners Database, which is essential for effective communication and collaboration among various stakeholders. Additionally, the intern will support the planning and execution of events celebrating the UN's 80th anniversary, known as UN80, and assist in utilizing new AI tools for the office's operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's primary responsibilities will include:
Supporting the UN Youth Advisory Board by organizing meetings and assisting in the development and implementation of the Groups' Annual Activity Plan.
Conducting analysis of data and information related to youth in North Macedonia and the Western Balkan region, contributing to the preparation of youth-focused initiatives.
Updating the UN Partners Database with publicly available data and information provided by UN entities, ensuring it is accessible and searchable in a shared UN space.
Assisting in the planning and execution of UN80 event activities, which celebrate the 80th anniversary of the UN.
Supporting the Resident Coordinator Office in the utilization of new AI tools to enhance operational efficiency.
Performing other tasks as requested by management to support the overall objectives of the UN team.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for applicants to the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates must be students in their final year of a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program or have completed such programs. Additionally, applicants should possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, and MS Excel. Familiarity with MS Lists or similar software is desirable, along with previous experience in organizing youth activities and the ability to coordinate and organize events with groups of people.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program (master's or equivalent) or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. Candidates must demonstrate that their field of study is relevant to the internship role. Proof of enrollment or completion of the required educational qualifications must be provided during the application process, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.
Experience: While the UN Internship Programme does not require professional work experience, candidates should have relevant academic experience or involvement in activities related to youth engagement, event organization, or similar fields. Previous engagement in organizing youth activities is considered desirable, as it demonstrates the candidate's ability to work effectively in a team and contribute to the objectives of the UN Youth Advisory Board and related initiatives.
Languages: Fluency in Macedonian and English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Albanian is considered desirable, as it may enhance communication with diverse youth groups and stakeholders in North Macedonia.
Additional Notes: This internship is a hybrid position, requiring both in-person and online work. The expected duration of the internship is six months. Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for their travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of North Macedonia may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization. It is essential for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
