Job Overview:
The position involves recruiting an international consultant to conduct a feasibility study on the potential for green hydrogen in Togo. This study is crucial for assessing the viability of green hydrogen as a sustainable energy source in the region. The consultant will be expected to analyze the current energy landscape, evaluate the resources available for hydrogen production, and provide recommendations on how Togo can leverage green hydrogen technology to meet its energy needs and contribute to environmental sustainability. The consultant will work closely with local stakeholders, government agencies, and other partners to gather data and insights necessary for the study. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of renewable energy technologies, particularly hydrogen, and the ability to communicate findings effectively to various audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of the current energy situation in Togo, including existing energy sources, consumption patterns, and infrastructure.
  • Evaluate the potential for green hydrogen production in Togo, considering factors such as renewable energy resources (solar, wind, etc.), technology availability, and market demand.
  • Engage with local stakeholders, including government officials, energy companies, and community organizations, to gather insights and foster collaboration.
  • Prepare a detailed feasibility report outlining the findings of the study, including technical, economic, and environmental assessments.
  • Provide recommendations for the development of a green hydrogen strategy in Togo, including potential projects, investment opportunities, and policy frameworks.
  • Present the findings to relevant stakeholders and assist in the dissemination of information to promote awareness and understanding of green hydrogen's potential.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • A proven track record in renewable energy consulting, particularly in hydrogen technologies.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present findings to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working in developing countries, particularly in Africa, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the energy policies and regulatory frameworks in Togo or similar contexts is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively under tight deadlines.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree or higher in a relevant field such as renewable energy, environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline is required. Additional certifications or training in hydrogen technologies or energy policy will be considered an asset.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field of renewable energy, with a focus on hydrogen or similar technologies. Experience in conducting feasibility studies or project assessments in the energy sector is essential. Previous work with international organizations or development agencies will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as the primary language of communication in Togo is French. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be necessary for reporting and communication with international stakeholders. Knowledge of local languages can be an advantage.

This consultancy is expected to take place from May to June 202
  • The position is classified as an individual contractor role, and candidates should be prepared to submit their proposals through the UNDP's supplier portal. The consultant will be expected to work full-time during the contract period, and the compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The role may involve travel within Togo to meet with stakeholders and gather data.
