Job Overview:
The Data Engineer position is a critical role within the IAEA's Department of Safeguards, which is responsible for ensuring that nuclear materials are not diverted from peaceful uses. The Data Engineer will report to the Section Head of the Development Section and will be tasked with managing data architecture, integration, and overall data management for software solutions developed by the department. This role requires a deep understanding of the organization's data needs and the ability to work closely with various stakeholders to create data solutions that align with the IAEA's objectives. The Data Engineer will lead projects focused on data engineering, ensuring data quality and integrity, and optimizing workflows for data processing and analysis. This position is essential for supporting the department's mission to maintain global nuclear security and safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data Engineer will be responsible for leading data engineering projects that support the objectives of the Department of Safeguards. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing data processing solutions in collaboration with stakeholders, designing and maintaining data pipelines and architectures, integrating large volumes of data from various sources, ensuring data quality and integrity, and collaborating with software development teams and data scientists to provide relevant data services. The Data Engineer will also optimize data flows, database queries, and performance tuning, and establish modern data solutions and services. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to communicate effectively with various teams and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's Degree in fields related to computer science, information systems, information technology, information architecture, or a related engineering field. Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in the same fields, combined with two additional years of relevant experience, may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree. The position requires a minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience, with at least four years specifically working with complex data integration platforms that support data analysis. In-depth experience in data engineering and related tools, such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), is essential, along with proficiency in Python and strong knowledge of information security practices. Experience with R language, Java, machine learning, AI systems, and open-source data platforms is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's Degree in computer science, information systems, information technology, information architecture, or a related engineering field. A Bachelor's Degree in these areas, combined with additional relevant experience, may also be acceptable. The emphasis is on advanced knowledge and skills in data management and engineering, as well as familiarity with the latest technologies and methodologies in the field.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience, with a strong focus on data engineering and integration. At least four years of this experience should involve working with complex data integration platforms that support data analysis. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of managing data projects, including planning, execution, and supervision of data-related activities. Experience with data engineering tools and technologies, as well as a solid understanding of data architecture and management strategies, is crucial for success in this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages, including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $84,672, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Additional benefits include a variable post adjustment, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses, six weeks of annual leave, home leave travel, a pension plan, and health insurance.
