Job Overview:
The Communication Section Leader will play a crucial role in the Office of the Director-General at the ITER Organization. This position involves leading a team of communication professionals to develop and implement effective communication strategies that enhance ITER's external image and foster a positive internal work environment. The leader will be responsible for managing communication policies, building public engagement, and ensuring that key stakeholders understand the value of their investment in the ITER project. The role requires a strategic approach to communication, focusing on optimizing outreach efforts and promoting the project's goals to a variety of audiences. The Communication Section aims to elevate public understanding of fusion energy and showcase the progress of the ITER project, making this position vital for the organization's success in achieving its mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Communication Section Leader include developing and implementing the ITER communication policy and strategy, monitoring emerging communication trends, and adjusting strategies as necessary. The leader will provide inclusive and effective leadership for the communication team, ensuring that team members are motivated and developing their skills. They will propose and monitor the annual communication plan and budget, represent the ITER Organization at external events, and act as a spokesperson. The leader will also contribute to crisis communication efforts, review and approve communication materials, and oversee internal communication channels to maintain high awareness of project progress. Additionally, the leader will develop networks with media contacts and relevant international institutions, promote coverage of ITER in the media, and advise senior management on public affairs issues.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess extensive experience in a senior or strategic communications role, preferably within a large-scale international project or organization. Strong public communication skills, including the development and execution of strategic outreach plans, are essential. The candidate should have strong media relations skills and experience acting as a spokesperson. Team management experience is also required, with a focus on defining and overseeing the activities of a unit or team. The ability to support staff professional growth through coaching and mentoring is crucial. Desirable qualifications include experience in stakeholder management, managing change, proficiency in relevant IT technologies, knowledge of fusion energy, and strategic intelligence in communication.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science, Scientific Field, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with extensive professional experience in similar roles or additional training certificates in relevant domains may also be considered. The educational background should support the responsibilities of the position, ensuring that the candidate has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively lead the communication efforts at ITER.

Experience:
Candidates should have a significant level of experience, ideally in a senior or strategic communications role within a large-scale international project or organization. This experience should encompass public communication, media relations, team management, and stakeholder engagement, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex communication landscapes and manage diverse teams effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional ITER languages is considered desirable, as it may enhance communication efforts with diverse stakeholders and audiences.

Additional Notes:
The position offers an initial employment contract of up to five years, with the possibility for extension. The job grade is P4/P5, indicating a senior level of responsibility.
