Job Overview:
The position of Individual Consultant for Territorial Mechanisms for Peace is designed to generate community mechanisms that foster intergenerational dialogue, strengthening youth historical memory actions at the local level. The consultant will be responsible for developing strategies and frameworks that facilitate communication and understanding among different generations, particularly focusing on the youth's role in preserving historical narratives. This role requires a deep understanding of community dynamics, conflict resolution, and peacebuilding processes. The consultant will work closely with local stakeholders, including community leaders, youth organizations, and government entities, to implement effective dialogue mechanisms that promote peace and reconciliation. The assignment is expected to last for a period of 8 months, during which the consultant will be expected to deliver tangible results that contribute to the overall mission of UNDP in El Salvador.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement community-based mechanisms for intergenerational dialogue that promote historical memory among youth.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions aimed at enhancing the understanding of historical narratives and their relevance to current peacebuilding efforts.
  • Collaborate with local organizations and stakeholders to ensure the active participation of youth in the dialogue processes.
  • Conduct assessments to identify the needs and perspectives of different generations regarding historical memory and peace.
  • Prepare and submit reports on the progress of the dialogue mechanisms, including recommendations for improvement.
  • Engage with local media to promote the initiatives and raise awareness about the importance of historical memory in peacebuilding.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to community leaders and organizations involved in the dialogue processes.
  • Ensure that all activities are aligned with UNDP's strategic objectives and contribute to the overall peacebuilding efforts in the region.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in community development, peacebuilding, or conflict resolution.
  • Strong understanding of historical memory and its impact on youth and community dynamics.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups.
  • Experience working with youth organizations and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in project management and reporting.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree in social sciences, peace studies, community development, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset.

Experience:
At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in community engagement, peacebuilding, or related fields is required. Experience working in El Salvador or similar contexts is highly desirable. Previous experience with UN agencies or international organizations will be considered an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and partners.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time consultancy position for a duration of 8 months. The consultant will be expected to work closely with UNDP and local partners, and may be required to travel within El Salvador as part of the assignment. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in accordance with UNDP's policies for individual contractors.
