Duties and Responsibilities: The Editor's duties include editing documents to ensure they meet United Nations standards, consulting with author departments to clarify ambiguities, and providing guidance on editorial policy. The role also involves overseeing the assignment of translation jobs to contractual translators, performing quality control on translations, and maintaining a roster of translators. The Editor will work with the Head of the Unit to develop work strategies, contribute to performance evaluations, conduct linguistic research, and prepare terminological records. Furthermore, the Editor will analyze data trends and utilize data visualization methods to support planning and reporting.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a first-level degree from a university or an equivalent institution, preferably in language studies. They must have passed a combined United Nations Competitive Examination for Translators/Precis-writers, Editors, or Verbatim Reporters. Successful completion of programs in data analytics or related fields is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of editorial practices and possess analytical skills to interpret data effectively.
Educational Background: A first-level degree from a recognized university or institution is required, with a preference for degrees in language studies. Candidates must have passed relevant United Nations competitive examinations, with specific waivers applicable for those who passed earlier exams. Additional qualifications in data analytics or related fields are considered advantageous.
Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in editing or a relevant language field is required. Experience within the United Nations Common System or a similar international organization is desirable. Candidates with two or more years of experience in data analytics or related areas will have an advantage in the selection process.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, with knowledge of French or Spanish being desirable.
