Job Overview:
The Social and Behaviour Change Officer will work under the general guidance of the South Area Field Office Chief and technical guidance from the SBC Section. The role involves designing, managing, monitoring, and evaluating evidence-based, inclusive, and innovative SBC strategies to support the country programme. The officer will be based in Kosti, White Nile state, and will provide support across the South Area. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to implement SBC activities in humanitarian and emergency contexts, ensuring that these activities are backed by social and behavioral evidence and strong engagement mechanisms. The officer will also be responsible for mobilizing resources, coordinating across sectors, and promoting continuous learning and capacity building in SBC.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the design and implementation of SBC activities in humanitarian, emergencies, and nexus programs by collaborating with sectoral specialists and partners. This includes managing qualitative and quantitative research on social and behavioral drivers and establishing community feedback mechanisms.
  • Design, plan, and implement SBC activities that are evidence-based and ensure quality engagement with communities. This involves providing technical support for the implementation and monitoring of SBC strategies in line with global standards.
  • Advocate for SBC, mobilize resources, and coordinate with stakeholders to integrate community engagement in sectoral workplans. This includes financial planning and tracking for SBC initiatives.
  • Promote continuous learning and capacity building for UNICEF staff and partners by developing best practices and facilitating the exchange of experiences in SBC methods.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum requirements include a 1st university degree (bachelor’s) in social and behavioral sciences such as sociology, anthropology, public health, or related fields. A minimum of 1 year of professional experience in social development program planning, communication for development, or related areas in emergency contexts is required. Desirable qualifications include relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a bachelor's degree in social and behavioral sciences, which encompasses fields like sociology, anthropology, public health, journalism, communication for development, psychology, or related disciplines.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 1 year of professional experience in relevant fields such as social development program planning, communication for development, or social and behavior change in emergency and humanitarian contexts. Experience within a UN agency is considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory. Knowledge of another official UN language or local language is considered an asset.
