In Bangladesh, UN Women is actively involved in the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for 2022-2026, which prioritizes gender equality and women’s empowerment through a twin-track approach, mainstreaming these considerations across all outcomes and specifically targeting them in dedicated outcomes.

Job Overview:
The primary objective of this consultancy is to develop a Country Gender Equality Profile (CGEP) that will conduct a rigorous intersectional gender, power, and conflict analysis. This analysis is essential for informing gender equality results in UN Cooperation Frameworks, adhering to common standards established by UN Women and the UN System. The CGEP will serve as a standardized UN system product, providing a comprehensive understanding of gender inequality issues in Bangladesh through quantitative and qualitative analyses. The consultant will compile findings from interviews, multi-stakeholder consultations, and secondary data, targeting relevant stakeholders such as government entities, UN agencies, civil society, and the private sector. The CGEP will also generate actionable recommendations for addressing key gender equality priorities, including legal reforms and policy changes, guided by international frameworks and commitments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for developing an inception report that outlines the methodology for the CGEP, reviewing existing data related to gender issues, and drafting the CGEP itself. Key tasks include conducting interviews with stakeholders, organizing national consultations, and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data. The consultant will also map the roles of key actors in gender equality efforts, identify limitations in existing data, and draft a comprehensive CGEP that includes recommendations for policy and legislative reforms. The consultant will validate findings with local organizations and incorporate feedback into the final report, ensuring that the CGEP aligns with international standards and frameworks.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Statistics, Gender Studies, Development Studies, or a related field. A minimum of 10 years of work experience in gender statistics and/or gender equality issues is required. Experience in developing quantitative and qualitative analyses, high-quality reports, and policy briefs is essential. Familiarity with UN gender tools and mechanisms, as well as experience in data analysis using software such as SPSS, STATA, or R, is highly desirable. Candidates should also have a strong understanding of international gender equality frameworks and the Bangladesh context regarding gender issues.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as Statistics, Gender Studies, or Development Studies is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender equality and the methodologies necessary for conducting thorough analyses.

Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of relevant work experience, particularly in gender statistics and gender equality issues. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in developing both quantitative and qualitative analyses, as well as producing high-quality reports and policy briefs. Familiarity with the UN system and its gender equality mechanisms is also essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as the consultant will be required to produce reports and communicate findings effectively. Knowledge of Bengali or other local languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.

This consultancy is remote, and the expected duration of the assignment is 30 working days over a period of 3 months, from May to July 202
  • The consultant will work closely with UN Women and the Gender Equality Theme Group, under the supervision of the UN Women Representative. Payments will be made based on deliverables, with specific milestones outlined for each phase of the project. No daily subsistence allowance (DSA) will be paid, but if unforeseen travel is necessary, expenses will be covered by UN Women.
