Job Overview: The Driver position at UN Women is crucial for providing reliable and safe driving services to the Programme and Operations staff, as well as visitors. The role requires a high level of discretion, integrity, and responsibility, along with an excellent understanding of protocol and security issues. The Driver is expected to demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, and tact while working with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. Reporting to the Executive Associate, the Driver may also be required to provide driving services to operations and programme staff, consultants, experts, and UN staff on mission. In addition to driving responsibilities, the Driver will also provide basic administrative and clerical support to the UN Women Country Office, ensuring that all tasks are performed efficiently and effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide reliable and secure driving services, including transporting authorized personnel, delivering and collecting mail and documents, and meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport.
Ensure proper use of the vehicle by maintaining daily logs, monitoring gas consumption, and providing inputs for vehicle maintenance plans.
Maintain the assigned vehicle in good working condition, including cleaning, minor repairs, and arranging for major repairs as needed.
Ensure availability of all required documents and supplies in the vehicle, such as insurance, vehicle logs, and a first aid kit.
Provide general administrative and logistic support, assisting office staff with filing, photocopying, and distribution of publications.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: The position requires completion of secondary education and a valid driver's license. Candidates must possess excellent driving skills, a good knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and local road conditions. Defensive driving skills and the ability to perform minor vehicle repairs are also essential. The Driver must demonstrate punctuality and reliability in their role.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed secondary education, which is a prerequisite for the position. A valid driver's license is also required to ensure that the individual is legally permitted to operate a vehicle in the country.
Experience: At least 2 years of experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system is required. Candidates should have a proven safe driving record, demonstrating their ability to operate vehicles responsibly and effectively in various conditions.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, along with a working knowledge of English. Additionally, fluency in local languages is required to facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.
