Job Overview: The Associate Industry Specialist position within IFC's Global TMT unit (CNGTT) is designed to provide TMT sector and investment expertise to IFC teams globally. The role involves assessing investment opportunities from a technical and operational perspective, providing analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">technical analysis and guidance to multidisciplinary project teams, preparing sector analyses, strategies, and management briefings, and enhancing IFC's TMT expertise through benchmarking and analyzing industry trends. The position is based in Washington, DC, and may require some travel. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in evaluating TMT projects, supporting investment teams, and contributing to the development of IFC's TMT program.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Associate Industry Specialist will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: applying sector and engineering knowledge to evaluate TMT projects from technical, commercial, and development impact perspectives; liaising with clients' technical staff and project engineers; reviewing major contracts such as EPC, O&M, and concession agreements; supporting investment teams in building financial models by providing technical, market, and operational parameters; conducting market and regulatory assessments to identify potential for market development; drafting Terms of Reference for hiring consultants; preparing high-quality project appraisal reports; monitoring portfolio investments to identify issues and propose solutions; conducting industry and market research; contributing to the development of IFC's TMT program; organizing webinars; and collaborating with IFC teams across regions to promote new business and innovation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical, or Network Engineering, with a Master's degree in a related field or business preferred. A solid technical expertise in the Telecommunications sector is required, with at least 5 years of operational experience in private sector companies, preferably in emerging economies. In-depth experience in multiple sub-sectors of telecommunications and a broad understanding of market dynamics, project management, and service technologies are essential. Candidates should also have experience in commercial feasibility, market studies, business plans, and telecommunications network operations. Knowledge of capital costs and productivity benchmarks for telecommunications sub-sectors is advantageous, along with excellent skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical, or Network Engineering as a minimum requirement. A Master's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical or Network Engineering, or business is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of the field.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of operational experience in the telecommunications sector, particularly with private sector companies. Candidates should have a solid technical background and in-depth experience in various sub-sectors of telecommunications, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of market dynamics, project management, and service technologies.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages such as Spanish or French is preferred, as these languages are relevant to IFC's markets of operation and can enhance communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
