Job Overview:
The Financial Sector Expert/Senior Financial Sector Expert position is situated within the Monetary and Capital Markets (MCM) Department, specifically in the Global Markets Analysis (GA) Division. The primary focus of this role is to monitor and analyze financial market developments, both in advanced economies and emerging markets. The expert will be responsible for producing in-depth analyses of financial vulnerabilities and risk transmission channels that could impact financial stability, contributing to the Global Financial Stability Report (GFSR), a key publication of the IMF. The role requires a proactive approach to gathering market intelligence and providing insights into market trends, risks, and opportunities. The expert will also engage with various stakeholders, including policymakers and market participants, to develop and communicate policy recommendations and insights.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Financial Sector Expert/Senior Financial Sector Expert include: monitoring global financial market developments and producing analyses of key financial vulnerabilities; covering specific regions for the daily Global Markets Monitor; conducting financial and peer analysis related to equity and cryptocurrency markets; developing advanced tools for assessing asset market valuations; regularly monitoring corporate earnings across sectors and jurisdictions; conducting innovative analyses to assess risks and vulnerabilities in the banking sector; providing briefings to senior management on financial market developments; drafting sections of the GFSR; assisting in policy recommendations for financial policymakers; participating in market surveillance missions; maintaining dialogue with market participants; and communicating with official sector institutions regarding risk build-up in the financial system.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree in economics, finance, business administration, or a related field, along with at least four years of professional experience. A PhD in these fields is preferred. The ideal candidate will have financial expertise in advanced economies, emerging markets, or financial market institutions, with a proven track record of at least four years in the financial industry, central banking, or related fields. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of financial instruments, market structures, and portfolio management, as well as a solid understanding of economic theory, monetary policy, and balance of payments analysis. Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex market developments are essential, along with familiarity with financial market data and econometric techniques.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in economics, finance, business administration, or a related field. Candidates with a PhD are preferred, as this level of education provides a deeper understanding of complex financial systems and economic theories, which is crucial for the analytical tasks associated with this role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in the financial sector, central banking, or related fields. This experience should include hands-on roles in major equity, fixed-income, or foreign exchange markets, as well as experience in market analysis, policymaking, and economic research. The ability to work under pressure and provide insightful analysis is critical for success in this position.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of the IMF. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset, particularly for candidates who may engage with non-English speaking stakeholders or markets.

Additional Notes:
This position is a 3-year Term appointment in accordance with the IMF's employment rules. Regular staff members selected for this role will maintain their open-ended status, while contractual employees will be offered a Term staff appointment. Current term staff may receive an extension if their term has not already been extended.
