Job Overview: The Senior Seismo-Acoustic Data Processing Specialist will play a crucial role in the Scientific Methods Unit within the Software Applications Section of the International Data Centre Division. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Seismo-Acoustic Data Processing Specialist include: conducting projects to improve and evaluate the performance of seismo-acoustic data processing and data fusion algorithms; developing, optimizing, and calibrating algorithms for signal detection, signal association, event location, and event characterization; performing research and leading software development in areas such as signal detection, phase association, and event characterization; defining software requirements and providing scientific advice to software development teams; applying statistical methods to determine and optimize the performance of operational systems for automatic analysis and interactive review of seismo-acoustic data; planning, managing, and evaluating work done by external contractors in seismo-acoustic research and development; and performing other duties as assigned by the Head of the Scientific Methods Unit.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess at least seven years of relevant working experience with geophysical methods and data processing techniques, including a minimum of three years of experience using UNIX/LINUXoperating systems and SQL or similar databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL. Additionally, experience with numerical computing packages such as MATLAB, Python/SciPy, Python/NumPy, Python/ObsPy, GNU Octave, or Mathematica for prototyping and enhancing seismo-acoustic data processing algorithms is required. Knowledge of data analysis and display software is desirable, as is experience in quantitative research processing large volumes of data. Candidates should also have knowledge of theoretical seismo-acoustic issues related to monitoring events in diverse environments, computational seismo-acoustics, and signal processing related to seismo-acoustic signal detection. Familiarity with computer simulation modeling techniques and methodologies for assessing technological maturity, such as Technology Readiness Levels, is also desirable.
