Established to address critical reproductive health needs, UNFPA operates in over 150 countries, employing thousands of individuals dedicated to improving lives through advocacy, partnerships, and technical assistance. The organization emphasizes the importance of reproductive health and rights in the development agenda, striving to create a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled.
Job Overview: The position of Program Associate in Sexual and Reproductive Health at UNFPA involves supporting the implementation of the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Programme in Mozambique. The associate will work closely with program staff to enhance the availability and use of integrated sexual and reproductive health services across 11 provinces. The associate will engage in various projects aimed at improving health outcomes for mothers, neonates, and adolescents, particularly in underserved regions like Niassa Province. The role is crucial for ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to essential health services and information, thereby contributing to the overall goals of UNFPA in Mozambique.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Program Associate will undertake a variety of tasks under the direct supervision of the SRH team leader, including:
Programme management support: Assisting in the implementation of SRH-related programs through budget analysis, monitoring project progress, and ensuring compliance with UNFPA procedures. This includes organizing meetings, maintaining records of donor agreements, and compiling lessons learned from ongoing programs.
Monitoring and reporting: Analyzing data to identify trends in needs and vulnerabilities, compiling reports on program progress, and preparing updates for donors and partners.
Resource mobilization: Supporting efforts to secure funding by providing inputs for donor reports, taking minutes during donor meetings, and assisting in the development of new proposals.
Additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor, which may include administrative duties and logistical support for events.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Program Associate position should possess strong organizational and analytical skills, with a commitment to the values of accountability, integrity, and professionalism. They should demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic work environment, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in teams. Effective communication skills are essential, along with a commitment to continuous learning and knowledge sharing. The ideal candidate should also have a strong motivation to contribute to the mission of UNFPA and the well-being of vulnerable populations.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in public health, social sciences, international development, or a related field is required for this position. Advanced degrees or specialized training in sexual and reproductive health or program management would be advantageous and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in program management, monitoring and evaluation, or resource mobilization, preferably within the context of sexual and reproductive health. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or government agencies in similar roles will be considered an asset. Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities in the health sector in Mozambique, particularly regarding sexual and reproductive health, is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, as it is the official language of Mozambique. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, especially for communication in business and academic settings. Knowledge of additional local languages may be beneficial and enhance the candidate's ability to engage with diverse communities.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Maputo, Mozambique, and is categorized as a family duty station, offering various accommodation options. The role is full-time and may involve travel within Mozambique to support program implementation. Candidates should be prepared for the challenges of working in a developing country context, including potential logistical and operational hurdles.
