Job Overview:

The intern will play a crucial role in advancing WWF's conservation goals by providing catalytic capital to early-stage companies in this field. The responsibilities include researching market innovations that promote sustainable food systems, conducting landscape analyses of subsectors within the agrifood sector, and mapping innovations in specific regions such as Latin America and the Caribbean. This position offers an opportunity to develop skills in evaluating the conservation, economic, and operational aspects of startups while contributing to the development of tools for impact measurement. The intern will gain insights into impact investing and the intersection of conservation and business, making it an ideal opportunity for those interested in the agrifood sector and environmental issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for conducting thorough research on emerging technologies and market trends within food production sectors to inform WWF Impact’s investment strategy. They will assist in refining impact evaluation and tracking tools to facilitate company screening during diligence and portfolio management. The intern will contribute to pipeline development through effective database management and participation in screening calls with founders. Additionally, they will help develop written communications and thought pieces that highlight the role of impact investing in conservation. The intern is expected to develop informed opinions and recommendations based on self-directed research regarding investment opportunities in the agrifood system.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be pursuing a graduate program in fields such as economics, business, finance, earth systems, planetary health, conservation, or agricultural science. While these areas are preferred, students from other disciplines are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be actively enrolled students and should not have received their degree by the internship start date of June 16, 202

The candidate should be able to work independently and possess experience in data analysis, with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a graduate program related to economics, business, finance, earth systems, planetary health, conservation, or agricultural science. Experience:

  • The position is flexible regarding location, allowing the intern to work from Washington DC or other states, with the exception of Hawaii, Kentucky, Nevada, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, and Wyoming. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., and this position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship. Upon selection, candidates will need to provide one letter of recommendation as part of the application process.
