Job Overview: The Senior Associate for Technical Assistance and Capacity Building will play a crucial role in the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People (HAC), an intergovernmental group co-chaired by Costa Rica and France, which aims to protect at least 30% of the world's land and ocean areas by 203
This position is hybrid, requiring three days a week in the Washington DC office, and it necessitates existing work authorization in the U.S. The role involves integrating equity into the work of the HAC, supporting the implementation of technical assistance and capacity-building efforts, and enhancing country engagement through strong coordination, communication, and organizational skills. The Senior Associate will report to the Senior Associate for Technical Assistance and Capacity Building and will be responsible for managing the 30x30 Solutions Toolkit, planning and executing capacity-building workshops, and providing operational support to the HAC Secretariat.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Associate include:
Capacity Building (50%): - Lead the management and continuous improvement of the 30x30 Solutions Toolkit website. - Plan and execute updates and upgrades to the platform. - Conduct outreach to partners and supporters to encourage resource submissions and promote toolkit utilization. - Organize, prepare, and co-facilitate Core Team and Editorial Team meetings. - Lead the planning, logistics, and execution of regional capacity-building workshops. - Organize and contribute to capacity-building activities, including webinars, online training, and learning events. - Collaborate and coordinate with partners to co-host and facilitate training sessions. - Organize peer-to-peer exchanges and specialized training in collaboration with partners and supporters.
Operative Support to the Matchmaking (25%): - Review and manage requests for assistance from members. - Support in the submission and review of requests. - Oversee platform accounts and notification systems. - Provide support for the matchmaking platform improvement and IT development when needed.
Organizational Support to the HAC Secretariat (25%): - Engage with partners and supporters. - Engage with countries and political mobilization activities. - Identify opportunities for collaboration with technical and research assistance providers based on countries' needs. - Participate in strategic discussions and planning. - Contribute to daily operations and implementation of HAC activities.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a completed bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, political science, or socio-economic sciences. Relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree. Candidates should have 7+ years of relevant professional experience, with a deep understanding of strategies for advancing place-based nature conservation. Experience in designing and delivering technical assistance and capacity-building to government agencies, particularly in nature conservation or environmental contexts, is essential. Additionally, candidates should have experience managing relationships with mid-level managers from government agencies and non-governmental organizations, as well as experience in roles requiring high-level communications (both verbal and written) to diverse audiences.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a completed bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, political science, or socio-economic sciences. In cases where candidates have extensive relevant work experience, this may be accepted in lieu of a formal degree, indicating that practical experience is highly valued in this role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience. Candidates should have substantial experience and knowledge regarding strategies for advancing place-based nature conservation, as well as experience in designing and delivering technical assistance and capacity-building initiatives to government agencies, ideally within the context of nature conservation or environmental issues. Furthermore, candidates should have a proven track record of managing relationships with mid-level managers from government agencies and non-governmental organizations, along with experience in roles that necessitate high-level communication skills to effectively engage with various audiences.
Languages: Fluency in written and verbal English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in other common languages such as Spanish or French is considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate and collaborate with a broader range of stakeholders and partners.
Additional Notes: This position is hybrid, requiring three days a week in the Washington DC office. Existing work authorization is required at the time of application submission, and WRI is unable to sponsor visa work authorization for this position. To be eligible for this position in the U.S., candidates must be residents of DC, Maryland, or Virginia at the start of employment. The potential salary range for this position is between $96,000 and $116,000 USD, commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
