SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL (SI) is an international humanitarian aid organization that has been providing assistance to populations affected by armed conflicts and natural disasters for over 40 years. The organization is actively involved in projects in France that assist vulnerable populations living in precarious housing conditions, such as slums or squats, particularly in areas like Toulouse, Lille, Nantes, Marseille, and Île-de-France. SI addresses the challenges faced by these communities by providing access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene kits.

Job Overview:
The Logistics and Finance Assistant for the Northern base will work under the authority of the Logistics and Finance Manager for the Northern zone (Île-de-France, Lille, and Nord Littoral) and will collaborate with program teams, particularly in the areas of Water, Hygiene, and Sanitation (EHA), lead poisoning prevention, and community mobilization. The role involves supporting the logistics and finance manager in market knowledge, updating procurement tools, managing program and logistics orders, and ensuring the transport and storage of goods. The assistant will also participate in field distributions and assist in the archiving and centralization of logistical documents, as well as maintaining accounting records and managing billing processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Logistics and Finance Assistant will have a variety of responsibilities, including:
  • Assisting the logistics and finance manager in understanding the French market and updating procurement tools in compliance with donor regulations.
  • Managing program and logistics orders and tracking purchases.
  • Overseeing the transport of goods, delivery of purchases, and storage of items prior to technical team interventions.
  • Assisting in the search for donations for hygiene kits and participating in distribution activities on the ground.
  • Archiving and centralizing logistical documents and updating accounting journals.
  • Following up on billing and making prepayments.
  • Facilitating travel arrangements for team members and assisting in organizing inter-base freight.
  • Conducting inventory checks and informing program teams of stock arrivals.
  • Participating in weekly and monthly meetings and providing support to various zones as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a background in humanitarian logistics, accounting, financial management, project management, international relations, political science, or a related field. They should demonstrate excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, and possess strong analytical and writing skills. The ability to synthesize information, prioritize tasks, and work proactively is essential. Candidates should also have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a commitment to the principles and work of Solidarités International. A valid driver's license (Permis B) is mandatory.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have completed a degree or training in humanitarian logistics, accounting, financial management, project management, international relations, or political science. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the financial and logistical challenges involved.

Experience:
Candidates should have some level of experience in logistics, finance, or related fields, preferably within a humanitarian context. This could include internships, volunteer work, or previous employment in similar roles that demonstrate an understanding of logistical operations and financial management in a humanitarian setting.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as the position requires communication with local teams and stakeholders. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be necessary for reporting and communication with international teams. Additional languages relevant to the regions of operation would be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as an internship or alternance with a mandatory agreement. Compensation will be in accordance with current regulations. Public transport costs will be covered at 50% by SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL. Meal vouchers worth €8.90 per day will be provided, with SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL contributing 60%.
