Job Overview:
The Economic Affairs Consultant will play a pivotal role in analyzing key political-economic developments in Yemen, particularly in the context of ongoing negotiations between conflicting parties. This position requires a deep understanding of Yemen's socio-economic landscape and the ability to devise strategies that facilitate dialogue and cooperation among stakeholders. The consultant will be responsible for producing analytical reports that inform the UN's approach to mediation and support the broader peace process. The role also involves engaging with various interlocutors to build a comprehensive network that can aid in the negotiation process. The consultant will work closely with the economic unit to ensure that the outputs align with the UN's mandate and contribute to a peaceful, inclusive, and Yemeni-led political transition.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will perform a variety of duties, including but not limited to: monitoring sustainable development issues relevant to OSESGY’s mandate; designing and conducting studies on economic policy and negotiations support; developing policy recommendations for senior management; formulating proposals on economic issues; participating in international and national meetings; organizing expert group meetings and seminars; preparing speeches and briefing materials; collaborating with the UN Country Team for Yemen; representing OSESGY at various meetings; designing and monitoring technical cooperation projects; conducting training seminars; supporting junior staff; and performing administrative tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in economics or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in research, analysis, policy formulation, and sustainable development principles is required. Experience in providing advisory support to mediation efforts and working within the United Nations Common System or international organizations is essential. Familiarity with the Arabian Peninsula and experience in Yemen are highly desirable, as is the ability to establish strategic partnerships with key stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree in economics or a related field. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by additional qualifying experience. This educational background is crucial for understanding complex economic issues and formulating effective policies that support the UN's objectives in Yemen.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields, including research and analysis, policy formulation, and technical cooperation. Experience in mediation support and familiarity with the United Nations or international organizations is necessary. Additionally, working experience in the Arabian Peninsula and knowledge of Yemen's context will be beneficial for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this consultancy, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of Arabic is also required, which is essential for effective communication and engagement with local stakeholders. Proficiency in French is advantageous but not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
The position is home-based with frequent travel to Yemen, indicating a flexible work arrangement that requires the consultant to be adaptable to travel demands. The expected duration of the consultancy is 11 months.
