Job Overview:
The position of Individual Contractor Associate - PSEA Specialist and Speechwriter is crucial for advancing the United Nations' efforts to prevent and respond to sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA). The incumbent will work closely with the Under-Secretary-General and the OSCSEA team to enhance internal and external communication strategies related to PSEA. This role involves preparing speeches and talking points for high-level engagements, contributing to comprehensive assessments on PSEA, and developing a system-wide communications strategy. The position requires a proactive approach to monitoring and analyzing data on SEA allegations, synthesizing information from various sources, and facilitating effective communication across different platforms. The incumbent will also support the UN's comprehensive assistance to Haiti, focusing on PSEA, and contribute to policy updates and stakeholder consultations. Overall, this role is designed for a dynamic individual who can navigate complex issues and communicate effectively to promote awareness and advocacy on PSEA matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Individual Contractor Associate - PSEA Specialist and Speechwriter include:
  • Supporting OSCSEA’s communication efforts related to PSEA in peacekeeping missions, humanitarian operations, and development settings.
  • Preparing for speaking engagements by drafting speeches and talking points for the Under-Secretary-General.
  • Assisting in the proof-reading and formatting of reports for the system-wide Comprehensive Assessment on PSEA.
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of a communications strategy on PSEA.
  • Monitoring and analyzing data and trends on SEA allegations to inform strategic communication responses.
  • Reviewing and synthesizing documents, policies, and media coverage related to PSEA.
  • Supporting the Office’s participation in UN assistance to Haiti with a focus on PSEA.
  • Contributing to policy work and consultations for updating the Secretary-General’s Bulletin on PSEA.
  • Drafting briefing notes and communication materials to advance advocacy on PSEA. 1
  • Facilitating the sharing of updates and best practices through various communication channels. 1
  • Performing other duties as required by the office.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for this position include a minimum of a master’s degree in relevant fields such as communications, journalism, public policy, international relations, gender studies, human rights, social sciences, peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, humanitarian affairs, or development studies. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, excellent writing abilities, and a deep understanding of gender-related issues, particularly in the context of sexual exploitation and abuse. Candidates should also demonstrate flexibility and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a minimum of a master’s degree in communications, journalism, public policy, international relations, gender studies, human rights, social sciences, peace and security, humanitarian affairs, development studies, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to the OSCSEA's mission.

Experience:
A minimum of 1 year of professional experience in communications, journalism, gender studies, social sciences, international relations, peace and security, humanitarian affairs, political affairs, or development studies is required. Experience specifically related to addressing sexual and gender-based violence, sexual exploitation and abuse, and the protection of civilians is highly desirable. Candidates should also have experience in drafting speeches, reports, and advocacy materials, which will be critical for the responsibilities of this role.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, along with excellent writing skills. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, but English is the primary language required for this position.
