Job Posting Organization:
The position is located within the Conventional Arms Branch (CAB) of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (ODA) in New York. Job Overview:
The Political Affairs Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Global Framework for Through-life Conventional Ammunition Management. This position involves analyzing political events and trends, preparing analytical reports, and providing early warning advice to senior officials. The officer will also be responsible for organizing and supervising Secretariat services for the General Assembly and Security Council, ensuring effective communication and coordination among various stakeholders. The role requires a deep understanding of disarmament and arms control treaties, as well as the ability to engage with Member States and international organizations on relevant issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Political Affairs Officer will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including: organizing and supervising Secretariat services for disarmament treaties, reviewing and monitoring assigned topics, analyzing political events, preparing reports and correspondence for senior officials, acting as a focal point for political issues, collecting and analyzing data to identify trends, arranging negotiations and assessment missions, maintaining contacts with Member States and international organizations, and participating in conferences and seminars related to conventional arms. The officer will also be involved in administrative functions related to staff planning and budget, drafting plans and projects, and performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration, or related fields. A first-level degree with additional relevant work experience may be accepted. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in data analytics or related fields is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of political issues and the ability to analyze complex data.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in relevant fields is required. Alternatively, a first-level degree with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted. Completion of programs in data analytics or related fields is a plus.

Experience:
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, or related areas is required. Candidates should have experience providing secretariat support and participating in intergovernmental processes, as well as experience in conventional arms control. Supervisory or management experience is desirable, along with at least two years of experience in data analytics or related areas.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable, which may enhance a candidate's profile.
