Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, was established to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. Operating in over 150 countries, UNFPA focuses on providing access to a wide range of sexual and reproductive health services. The organization’s strategic plan for 2022-2025 emphasizes three transformative results: ending preventable maternal deaths, fulfilling unmet needs for family planning, and eradicating gender-based violence and harmful practices. The Regional Office in Bangkok supports 22 country offices across Asia and the Pacific Subregional Office in Suva, Fiji, which aids 14 Pacific Island nations. UNFPA delivers policy advice, training, and support to empower partners and colleagues in the field, ensuring that the Programme of Action from the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development is integrated into poverty reduction and development strategies throughout the region.

Job Overview:
The Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Climate Resilience Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting UNFPA’s initiatives aimed at addressing the intersection of youth sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and climate resilience. The Asia Pacific region, home to nearly one billion young people, faces significant challenges due to climate change, which adversely affects the health and well-being of adolescents and youth. This position will involve promoting and strengthening UNFPA’s adolescent and youth programming knowledge, models, and partnerships, focusing on youth leadership and innovative approaches that adapt SRH services to the realities of climate change. The assistant will engage in stakeholder mapping and contribute to advocacy efforts to ensure that the most vulnerable populations, particularly adolescent girls and young women, are prioritized in climate resilience strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Climate Resilience Assistant will undertake various tasks under the supervision of the Technical Advisor on Adolescents and Youth. Key responsibilities include supporting knowledge management activities to assess the impact of climate change on adolescent girls and young women, developing knowledge products for advocacy, conducting analytical reviews of youth development frameworks, mapping entities involved in youth health and climate resilience, participating in regional webinars, contributing to youth-led engagement in climate action, and assisting in resource mobilization through proposal development. The assistant will also identify research areas related to climate and SRH that involve community engagement and diverse stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to UNFPA’s mission and values, showcasing adaptability, accountability, and professionalism. They should possess excellent communication skills, a commitment to continuous learning, and the ability to work effectively in teams. The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong sense of ethics and integrity, ensuring that all actions align with UNFPA’s core values.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is essential for this position, ideally in public health, social sciences, or a related field. Candidates should have a solid understanding of sexual and reproductive health issues, particularly as they pertain to youth and climate change. Advanced degrees may be preferred, but relevant experience can also be considered in lieu of formal education.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in areas related to youth programming, sexual and reproductive health, or climate resilience. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or in a multicultural environment is highly desirable. Familiarity with advocacy efforts and knowledge management in the context of youth health and climate change will be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within UNFPA and for the position. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the Asia Pacific region would be considered an asset, enhancing the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in Bangkok, Thailand, which is a highly developed city with a relatively low cost of living compared to other major capitals. The role is full-time, and the assistant will be expected to engage actively with various stakeholders in the region. The living conditions in Bangkok are favorable, with excellent health facilities, international schools, and extensive public transportation options. The position may involve some travel within the region to support UNFPA’s initiatives.
