Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position in the CELADE-Population Division of ECLAC in Santiago, Chile, is designed for a duration of 3 months, with the possibility of renewal for an additional 3 months based on the needs of the office. The intern will work under the supervision of the Population Affairs Officer and is expected to engage in various tasks related to population issues, particularly with an ethno-racial perspective. The role involves searching, collecting, and organizing information, processing census microdata, preparing tables and thematic maps, conducting preliminary analyses of sociodemographic information, and supporting the organization of meetings and workshops. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in population analysis within a significant international organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for the following duties: 1) Search, collect, and organize information and reference materials on population issues with an ethno-racial perspective. 2) Process census microdata from selected Latin American countries, ensuring disaggregation by ethno-racial and territorial levels, using the software Redatam. 3) Prepare tables, charts, and thematic maps that illustrate the territorial distribution of ethnic groups. 4) Conduct preliminary analyses of sociodemographic information to support research and policy development. 5) Assist in the organization and servicing of meetings, workshops, and inter-governmental conferences related to the Division's projects. 6) Carry out additional tasks as required by the Division, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn.

Required Qualifications:
The basic educational requirement for this internship is a High School Diploma. Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). It is important to note that applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have prior professional work experience. However, candidates must have good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and REDATAM.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed or be in the process of completing their first university degree (bachelor's degree or equivalent) or a graduate school program. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern possesses the necessary analytical and research skills required for the position.

Experience:
While prior professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. This could include research projects, coursework in population studies, sociology, or related fields that provide a foundation for understanding population dynamics and analysis.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.
