Job Overview:
The Modeller position within the OECD Environment Directorate (ENV) is a critical role that involves contributing to the maintenance, update, and improvement of the ENV-Linkages model and related quantitative frameworks. The successful candidate will be responsible for running simulations, validating model outputs, and preparing clear visual representations of data for OECD reports and presentations. This role requires collaboration with team members to facilitate interactions between modelling tools and external data sources, as well as contributing to the documentation of databases and model code. The Modeller will also draft high-quality technical research documents and policy briefs aimed at non-technical audiences, ensuring that complex analytical results are communicated effectively. The position is integral to the EEI Division's research on the intersection of environmental and economic policies, utilizing large-scale economic models to assess the impacts of various policies and practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Modeller will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Maintaining, updating, and improving the code of the ENV-Linkages model and associated quantitative frameworks.
  • Running simulations with the ENV-Linkages model and assisting in the validation of model outputs.
  • Preparing clear graphs and tables to present model outputs for use in OECD reports and presentations.
  • Developing computer codes to enhance interactions between the modelling tools and external information sources, including data preparation and processing.
  • Documenting databases and model code, and performing additional programming tasks as required.
  • Setting up a data visualization page to provide users with an interactive interface for the modelling results.
  • Drafting high-quality technical research documents, project reports, and policy briefs/articles for non-technical audiences and the media.
  • Liaising with relevant staff in other divisions and organizations regarding the use of in-house databases and contributing to data requests for ongoing projects.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Modeller position should possess an advanced post-graduate university degree in economics, econometrics, operations research, mathematics, or a related discipline, with a Ph.D. being preferred. Additionally, candidates should have at least three years of experience in programming and managing large datasets, with a demonstrated ability in optimization or computable general equilibrium (CGE) modelling. A strong quantitative background and experience in modelling are essential, along with the ability to present and explain analytical results compellingly to diverse audiences.

Educational Background:
Candidates are required to have an advanced post-graduate university degree in a relevant field such as economics, econometrics, operations research, or mathematics. A Ph.D. is preferred, indicating a high level of expertise and research capability in the field.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of professional experience in programming and handling large datasets. Candidates should have a proven track record in optimization or CGE modelling, showcasing their ability to conduct quantitative analyses effectively. Experience in presenting analytical results to various audiences is also essential, demonstrating the candidate's communication skills and ability to convey complex information clearly.

Languages:
Fluency in one of the two official OECD languages, English or French, is mandatory, along with knowledge of the other language. Candidates should be committed to achieving a good working level in the second language, ensuring effective communication within the organization.
