Job Overview:
The Humanitarian Access and Security Coordinator will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of humanitarian operations in Nigeria. This position involves assessing security risks, developing access strategies, and coordinating with local authorities and other stakeholders to facilitate safe humanitarian access. The coordinator will be responsible for implementing security protocols, conducting training for staff on safety measures, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying potential threats and developing contingency plans to mitigate risks. Additionally, the coordinator will engage in advocacy efforts to promote the safety of humanitarian workers and the populations they serve.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular security assessments to identify risks and vulnerabilities in operational areas.
  • Develop and implement security plans and protocols for field operations.
  • Coordinate with local authorities, UN agencies, and NGOs to ensure safe access to affected populations.
  • Provide training and support to staff on security awareness and emergency response procedures.
  • Monitor and analyze the security situation and provide timely updates to management.
  • Prepare reports on security incidents and recommend actions to improve safety measures.
  • Liaise with the logistics team to ensure safe transportation of personnel and supplies.
  • Participate in inter-agency security meetings and represent the organization in relevant forums.
  • Develop and maintain a network of contacts with local security forces and community leaders. 1
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and international humanitarian standards.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in security management, preferably in humanitarian contexts.
  • Strong understanding of the security dynamics in Nigeria and the broader region.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in challenging environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in security management, international relations, or a related field is required. A master's degree or relevant certifications in security or crisis management is preferred.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in security coordination or management, with at least 3 years in a humanitarian context. Experience working in Nigeria or similar environments is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in local languages such as Hausa or Yoruba is an advantage.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time position based in Nigeria. The contract duration is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension based on funding and performance.
