Job Overview: The Associate Communications Officer is responsible for maintaining relationships with management, other communications specialists, and various stakeholders to facilitate effective communication strategies. This role involves gathering insights from media monitoring, developing digital communication strategies, and coordinating media events. The officer will also draft narratives and messaging that resonate with target audiences, ensuring that the UN's work is effectively communicated. The position requires a proactive approach to building partnerships and managing communications campaigns that align with the UN's objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Gather insights and analyze media monitoring data to inform communication strategies.
Foster relationships with media outlets and engage with editors, journalists, and influencers.
Develop and implement digital communication strategies to raise awareness and drive engagement.
Plan and coordinate press conferences and media events, ensuring effective media coverage.
Create and implement communications campaigns that engage target audiences.
Draft compelling narratives and messaging for various channels.
Develop media lines for crisis situations and sensitive issues.
Prepare talking points and key messages for media interviews.
Produce communications products such as press releases and reports. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, critical thinking, and creativity in content development. Knowledge of strategic communications principles and digital design is essential. The ability to analyze data and convey information effectively is required. Candidates should show commitment to gender perspectives and equal participation in all areas of work. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, digital communications, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience of no less than four years may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Completion of programs in data analytics or related fields is an advantage.
Experience: A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in developing and implementing communications strategies is required. Knowledge of media monitoring tools and risks to information integrity is essential. Experience in communicating complex matters to diverse audiences is desirable, as is experience in data analytics or related areas.
Languages: Fluency in English, Russian, and Kyrgyz/Kirghiz is required for this position. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage. Fluency is defined as a rating of 'fluent' in all four areas (reading, writing, speaking, understanding).
Additional Notes: This is a fixed-term, limited position for an initial period of one year, subject to availability of funds and budgetary approval. The position is open to nationals of Kyrgyzstan only. Candidates residing outside Kyrgyzstan may be considered if no suitable local candidates are identified.
