Job Overview: The Community Safety Officer will play a crucial role in the implementation of the DANIDA Karamoja Strong Project, which aims to enhance community resilience against climate-induced challenges and conflicts. This position requires a proactive individual who can effectively coordinate and document activities that strengthen community safety and resilience. The officer will work closely with the Project Manager, Head of Programs, and partner organizations to provide technical support and engage stakeholders in monitoring and evaluation efforts. The role emphasizes a community-centered approach, focusing on peacebuilding and sustainable development initiatives in the Karamoja region. The officer will be responsible for ensuring that project activities are aligned with the overall objectives of enhancing climate resilience and addressing the root causes of conflict.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Community Safety Officer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Project Management and Development: Contributing to the implementation of the Karamoja Strong Project by planning and coordinating climate-smart and peacebuilding activities. This includes designing and facilitating training sessions on Community Safety, Climate-Resilient Livelihoods, and Conflict Sensitivity. The officer will support cross-border community groups and local authorities in developing resilience strategies and will assist in the development and revision of project work plans.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Evaluation: The officer will monitor the implementation of community safety plans, ensuring alignment with DRC’s objectives. They will track project outputs and outcomes, lead the submission of reports, and collaborate with the MEAL team to assess the impact of interventions.
Coordination and Partnerships: Developing strong coordination with local peacebuilding actors and government stakeholders, representing DRC in various forums, and fostering collaboration with local CSOs.
Management and Administration: Taking responsibility for assigned equipment, ensuring compliance with DRC’s procedures, and assisting in administrative functions related to financial reporting and documentation.
Required Qualifications: To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding, Peace and Conflict Management, or Social Sciences. Additionally, a minimum of 4 years of professional experience in conflict/security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security issues and peacebuilding is required. Candidates should have experience in project management, including planning and budget administration, and should demonstrate strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. A high degree of computer literacy is essential, along with a strong knowledge of the Karamoja region and a willingness to live and work in the area, including travel to the Uganda-Kenya border.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding, Peace and Conflict Management, or Social Sciences. This educational background is critical for understanding the complexities of conflict dynamics and the necessary approaches to peacebuilding and community safety.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of professional experience in the field of conflict/security issues and peacebuilding. Candidates should have a proven track record in project management and delivery, including experience in planning, budget administration, and donor reporting. Experience working in conflict-prone and insecure areas is essential, as is the ability to work effectively within a team and ensure strong morale among team members.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Knowledge of local languages spoken in the Karamoja region would be considered an asset, as it would facilitate better engagement with community members and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The contract length for this position is 12 months, with a designated duty station in Moroto, Uganda. The expected start date for the role is May 202
