The successful candidate will be responsible for aligning financial and human resources with CERN's ambitious scientific mission. This role requires strategic insight and innovative thinking to manage resources effectively during a complex and significant period for the organization. The candidate will oversee the planning and coordination of all financial and human resources activities, ensuring that resources are utilized efficiently to meet CERN's scientific and operational objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The main tasks of the successful candidate will include:
Exercising collegial responsibility with the Directorate for the general management of CERN under the Director-General's authority.
Providing professional advice to the Director-General and senior management on financial and human resources matters.
Overseeing the planning, organization, and coordination of all financial and human resources activities at CERN.
Ensuring efficient use of resources to achieve scientific and operational goals.
Managing relationships with various internal and external bodies, including the Finance Committee, Council, External Auditors, and senior managers from financial institutions.
Developing and implementing policies and strategies for resource management.
Leading initiatives to optimize resource allocation and assess financial implications before decision-making.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess extensive management and administration experience at a senior level, preferably in a public institution or multinational company. They should have experience in high-level negotiations with public-sector and private partners, as well as in formulating and implementing policies and strategies for governing bodies. Experience in a scientific or technical research institution is considered a significant asset. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate competencies in organizational design, strategic agility, human resources management, and financial management.
Educational Background: While specific educational qualifications are not detailed, candidates are expected to have a strong academic background relevant to management, finance, or human resources, ideally complemented by experience in scientific research environments.
