Job Overview: As an Electrical Engineer within CERN's Electrical Engineering Group, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality management framework for the Long Shutdown 3 (LS3) project. This project involves the installation and commissioning of over 3,000 km of cables and a significant volume of electrical equipment valued at 100 million Swiss Francs, all under a stringent timeline. Your primary responsibilities will include overseeing compliance with electrical installation contracts, ensuring the quality of work on-site, and collaborating with contractors and internal stakeholders to maintain CERN's high-quality standards. You will also be tasked with developing and tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for contractor performance, supporting the non-conformity tracking system, and maintaining comprehensive documentation for LS3 coordination. This position requires a proactive approach to quality management and a commitment to continuous improvement, making it essential for the success of the LS3 project.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Identify and implement feedback from previous projects to enhance preparations for LS
Oversee compliance with electrical installation contracts, ensuring that quality standards are met on-site.
Verify requirements and organize inspections to maintain high-quality work.
Monitor the readiness of EL Service Contractors' Quality Plans.
Assist in conducting supplier quality audits prior to the execution of LS
Develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to contractor performance in quality, safety, and compliance.
Support the non-conformity tracking system to ensure traceability and resolution of quality issues.
Maintain comprehensive documentation for LS3 coordination, including methods, processes, and lessons learned from the project.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate experience in quality management, preferably within electrical engineering projects, and possess a solid understanding of worksite safety audits, compliance, and risk assessment. A basic knowledge of quality processes, testing, and validation strategies is essential. Experience with non-conformity tracking and contractor performance monitoring is advantageous. Proficiency in document control systems and quality reporting tools will be considered a plus. Strong communication and coordination skills are necessary, along with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment. Candidates must be fluent in spoken and written English and show a commitment to learning French.
Educational Background: Applicants should have a professional background in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or a related field. They must possess either a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience. It is important that candidates have not previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a professional background in relevant fields, with a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 6 years of post-graduation experience for those with a Master's degree. For PhD holders, no more than 3 years of post-graduation experience is acceptable. This experience should ideally be in quality management within electrical engineering projects, demonstrating a solid understanding of compliance and risk assessment in worksite safety.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Candidates are also expected to show a commitment to learning French, which will be beneficial for effective communication within the organization and with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is 24 months, with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of 36 months. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the target start date for the position is August 1, 202
The role involves working in radiation areas and conducting interventions in underground installations, which requires a valid driving license and specific authorization for operations on electrical installations exceeding 1000 Volt AC or 1500 Volt DC. Candidates must also obtain medical clearance due to the occupational health risks associated with this position. The compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 6287 to 6911 Swiss Francs (net of tax), comprehensive health coverage for the employee and their family, and various allowances depending on individual circumstances.
