Job Overview:
The Sustainability Strategy Implementation and Reporting Officer at CERN plays a crucial role in advancing the organization's sustainability mission. This position involves supporting the development and implementation of CERN's sustainability strategy, ensuring it aligns with international standards. The officer will coordinate social and governance initiatives across various sectors and departments, fostering collaboration and engagement among internal and external stakeholders. A key aspect of the role is to monitor progress, identify risks, and drive improvements in sustainability performance, particularly in social and governance areas. The officer will also be responsible for promoting sustainability awareness throughout CERN and ensuring compliance with recognized frameworks in all sustainability communications. Additionally, the officer will coordinate the biennial CERN Sustainability Report, integrating social and governance pillars in line with GRI requirements, and will lead the reporting process to ensure timely delivery and effective communication of sustainability efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Sustainability Strategy Implementation and Reporting Officer include:
  • Supporting the development and implementation of CERN's sustainability strategy in accordance with international standards.
  • Coordinating social and governance initiatives across various sectors and departments to ensure alignment and collaboration.
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to advance sustainability priorities, particularly in social and governance areas.
  • Monitoring progress and identifying risks to drive improvements in social and governance performance.
  • Promoting sustainability awareness and engagement across CERN.
  • Ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance in all sustainability communications.
  • Potentially supervising colleagues in the Sustainability office.
  • Coordinating the biennial CERN Sustainability Report with the Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Department, integrating social and governance pillars in line with GRI requirements.
  • Leading the reporting process end-to-end, ensuring timely delivery of milestones and effective interaction with external consultants. 1
  • Consolidating and analyzing data from across CERN and translating it into clear, impactful content for diverse audiences. 1
  • Drafting and delivering sustainability reports and communications in both French and English. 1
  • Managing reporting continuity, including procurement and publication processes, in accordance with CERN rules.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Sustainability Strategy Implementation and Reporting Officer position include:
  • A Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Sustainability Management or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing sustainability strategies, particularly in social and governance actions, with a focus on project delivery, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
  • A demonstrated track record of producing professional, accurate, and engaging sustainability reports and communications in English, with the ability to distill complex social and governance topics into clear, actionable insights.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in applying international social and governance standards and frameworks (e.g., GRI, CSRD, UN Global Compact) within sustainability reporting contexts is desirable.
  • Experience in a multicultural, industrial, or scientific organization is also preferred.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Sustainability Strategy Implementation and Reporting Officer position should possess a Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Sustainability Management or a related discipline. Additional Notes:
The position is a limited duration contract for 4 years, with the possibility of extension up to 8 years and eligibility for an indefinite contract tenure. The working hours are set at 40 hours per week, and the job offers hybrid flexibility. The job grade is classified as 6-7, and the reference for this position is HSE-2025-276-LD. CERN offers a competitive salary that is tax-free, increasing with relevant experience, along with 30 days of paid leave per year plus 2 weeks of annual closure.
