Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director for Chad will play a pivotal role in leading and programming to meet the evolving needs of communities in Chad. This office-based position in N’Djamena requires a strategic leader who can navigate both macro and micro-level challenges effectively. The Country Director will be responsible for strategic planning, high-level representation, resource mobilization, risk and access management, program quality, operational management, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. The role demands a dynamic approach, with strong communication and negotiation skills to engage effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners, including donors, government institutions, U.N. agencies, and other key stakeholders. The Country Director will ensure that Relief International's services are delivered effectively and responsively to the needs of the communities served.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Country Director include:
  • Developing and implementing a strategic vision for the country program, ensuring alignment with Relief International's mission and goals.
  • Leading resource mobilization efforts to secure funding and support for programs.
  • Ensuring quality operational delivery of programs, maintaining high standards of service and impact.
  • Managing change effectively within the country team, fostering a culture of adaptability and resilience.
  • Representing Relief International externally, engaging with stakeholders to advocate for the organization's mission and programs.
  • Overseeing program, risk, and security management to ensure safe and effective operations.
  • Leading and mentoring the country team, promoting professional development and performance management.
  • Upholding the organization's values and ensuring compliance with humanitarian principles and safeguarding policies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess progressive proven country leadership experience in implementing multi-sector programming within humanitarian and/or development contexts. Essential skills include previous experience managing change within country teams, persuasive interpersonal and communication skills, public speaking, writing, and strategic planning abilities. Strong project management skills are necessary to ensure timely program delivery, along with a keen attention to detail. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership qualities, including coaching and mentoring skills in team management, and a passion for navigating complex and changing environments. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both French and English are mandatory.

Educational Background:
A degree in a relevant field is required, or equivalent work experience that demonstrates the necessary skills and knowledge for the role. The educational background should align with the responsibilities of leading a country program in a humanitarian context, emphasizing the importance of relevant academic qualifications or substantial practical experience in the field.

Experience:
Candidates should have significant experience in country leadership roles, particularly in the implementation of multi-sector programs in humanitarian or development settings. Experience managing change within teams and overseeing complex program implementations is essential. Previous work experience in Africa and familiarity with sectors such as Health, Protection, WASH, and Livelihoods will be advantageous. Experience with EU and ECHO grants, as well as advocacy and media engagement, is also desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in both French and English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills in both languages. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and communities.

This position is office-based in N’Djamena, Chad, and requires the right to work in the home-based location. National terms and conditions will apply.
