Job Overview: The Senior Knowledge Management Officer position is a critical role within NORCAP, specifically under the Mediation and Dialogue Division (MDD) of the African Union (AU). This position is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and is offered for a one-year term with a three-month probation period. The officer will be responsible for documenting, monitoring, and reporting on mediation and dialogue processes, directly reporting to the Head of MDD. The role requires a strategic approach to managing knowledge resources and ensuring effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders, including AU member states and other organizations. The officer will play a vital role in enhancing the knowledge management strategy and platform of the MDD, ensuring that all mediation processes are meticulously documented and analyzed to support the AU's objectives in peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Knowledge Management Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: managing the Knowledge Management (KM) strategy and platform for the MDD; leading the compilation and analysis of data from AU member states regarding mediation processes; developing and implementing KM policies and procedures; ensuring effective communication with other AU organs, RECs/RMs, and international organizations; coordinating daily project operations and team priorities; monitoring and analyzing KM networks and tools; conducting research to enhance the KM function; organizing capacity-building initiatives; drafting and consolidating reports for AU leadership; and performing any other related responsibilities as assigned. This role requires a proactive approach to knowledge management, ensuring that the MDD's objectives are met through effective documentation and reporting.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Senior Knowledge Management Officer position must possess a Master's degree in business or public administration, management, statistics, economics, political science, or related fields, along with at least seven years of experience at a specialist or expertise level in program/project management. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree in the aforementioned fields with a minimum of ten years of relevant experience will be considered. Additionally, candidates should have a good comparative knowledge of KM strategies within the AU, RECs/RMs, or the UN, and familiarity with the African Union Agenda 2063 and its flagship project, Silencing the Guns, will be advantageous. Previous experience with government, NGOs, or international institutions is also desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in relevant fields such as business, public administration, management, statistics, economics, or political science. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in these fields may also be considered if they have substantial relevant experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of knowledge management and the operational needs of the MDD.
Experience: The position requires significant experience in program/project management, with a minimum of seven years for candidates holding a Master's degree or ten years for those with a Bachelor's degree. Experience in knowledge management strategies, particularly within the context of the AU or similar organizations, is crucial. Familiarity with the political landscape of Africa and previous work with governmental or international institutions will enhance a candidate's suitability for this role.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of additional AU working languages is considered an advantage, as it facilitates communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders across the African continent.
Additional Notes: The appointment for the Senior Knowledge Management Officer is for a period of one year, with the possibility of renewal, and the first three months will serve as a probationary period. The position is full-time, and the salary is set at P3 Step 5, inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff.
