The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) was established in 2002 as a Political/Peacebuilding Mission. It is exceptionally directed and supported by the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO). UNAMA's mission is to assist the people of Afghanistan in laying the foundations for sustainable peace and development in the country. The organization focuses on various priorities, including the provision of good offices, support for future elections, strengthening human rights, promoting gender equality, coordinating humanitarian assistance, and supporting governance and development priorities in Afghanistan. Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer Medical Doctor will work under the supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) or their designated representative. The primary responsibilities include attending to clinical duties at the UN clinic in the respective Field Office on a full-time basis, conducting day-to-day clinical consultations with UN personnel, stabilizing and referring complicated medical cases to higher facilities, and providing on-call services for medical emergencies. The role also involves occupational health duties such as conducting medical examinations, providing immunizations, and maintaining health education programs. Additionally, the Medical Doctor will assist in training and capacity building, manage medical logistics, and prepare reports on activities to the CMO.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Medical Doctor will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including: attending the UN clinic full-time, conducting clinical consultations, stabilizing and referring emergency cases, providing on-call services for medical emergencies, identifying local health facilities for mass casualty incidents, developing emergency capacity within the UN medical facilities, providing medical support for evacuations, conducting pre-placement and periodic medical examinations, administering immunizations, maintaining health records, providing health education, ensuring infection control standards, assisting in training programs, managing medical supplies and equipment, and preparing reports on medical activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid medical degree and relevant medical licenses. They should have strong clinical skills, experience in emergency medicine, and the ability to work in high-pressure environments. Knowledge of occupational health practices and experience in training medical personnel are also required. Candidates should demonstrate accountability, communication skills, integrity, planning and organizing abilities, and teamwork.

Educational Background:
A medical degree from a recognized institution is required. Additional certifications in emergency medicine, public health, or occupational health are advantageous. Continuous professional development and training in relevant medical fields are also beneficial.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience, preferably in emergency medicine or a similar field. Experience working in humanitarian settings or with international organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with the health challenges in conflict-affected areas is a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages such as Dari or Pashto is an advantage but not required. Proficiency in additional languages can enhance communication with diverse populations.

Additional Notes:
This position is a full-time role based in Afghanistan, requiring flexibility and the ability to work in challenging conditions. The role may involve living in remote areas with limited amenities. Candidates should be prepared for a commitment to humanitarian work and the unique challenges it entails. Compensation and benefits will be provided in accordance with UN standards.
