Job Overview:
The Wash/Shelter Officer position is crucial for the day-to-day implementation of integrated CC Projects, particularly focusing on Education through WASH in schools and FSL/WASH construction works. The officer will be responsible for effective planning, preparation of technical designs, and supervision of construction works, providing technical support for integrated activities. Collaboration with WASH officers, Shelter teams, and Education project officers is essential to ensure timely delivery of construction activities. The role also involves assisting Project Managers in the overall planning and design of future projects, making it a pivotal position within the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Wash/Shelter Officer will have a range of responsibilities including ensuring adherence to NRC policies and guidelines, participating in integrated project planning, preparing status reports, and maintaining proper documentation. The officer will promote technical improvements for WASH facilities, prepare monthly progress reports, and contribute to the capacity building of project staff and community volunteers. Specific responsibilities include working with implementing partners on construction works, engaging with the community during assessments and trainings, supervising contractor works, and ensuring quality control over materials and construction processes. The officer will also be responsible for archiving project documents, maintaining accountability to beneficiaries, and reporting on challenges and lessons learned during project implementation.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a university degree in Environmental Health, Hydraulics, Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Public Works, Architecture, or a related field. A higher education certificate is considered an advantage. Additionally, a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Project Officer in a humanitarian or recovery context is required, along with solid knowledge of WASH principles in conflict environments. Documented results related to the position's responsibilities are essential, as well as good verbal and written communication skills in English.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in relevant fields such as Environmental Health, Hydraulics, Hydrology, Civil Engineering, Public Works, or Architecture. Candidates with higher education certificates will have an advantage, indicating a preference for advanced qualifications in the relevant disciplines.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Project Officer in humanitarian or recovery contexts. Candidates should have a solid understanding of WASH principles, particularly in complex and volatile environments, and should be able to demonstrate documented results related to their responsibilities in previous roles.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, both in verbal and written communication. Knowledge of local languages and cultures relevant to the areas of intervention is considered beneficial, enhancing the officer's ability to engage with the community effectively.

This position is based in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, with a contract duration extending until the end of 202
  • It is classified as Grade 5 in NRC's grading structure, with a reporting line to the Project Manager. The role involves significant travel, estimated at 70% to 80%.
