Job Overview:
The internship program at the ILO provides an opportunity for candidates to gain practical experience in international labor issues while directly participating in the work of the organization. Interns will engage with the principles, programs, and strategies of the ILO, enhancing their understanding of relevant global issues. The internship is designed for a duration of 3 to 6 months, starting on either the 1st or 15th of the month. Interns will be involved in various aspects of social protection, particularly in health and social security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and will work closely with specialists in the field. This role is ideal for those looking to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting and contribute to meaningful projects that address global labor challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks, including but not limited to: collecting and analyzing data; conducting background research and drafting research materials and tools; supporting the formulation and implementation of project components; assisting in the coordination of joint work themes on social protection among specialists located in different duty stations; and performing any other tasks assigned by the supervisor in support of the team working on social protection. Interns are expected to dedicate between 10% and 20% of their time to administrative tasks, ensuring that they gain a comprehensive understanding of the operational aspects of the ILO.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet several qualifications to be eligible for the internship. They should not have any close relatives working at the ILO, must not have previously interned at the ILO, and should be enrolled in or have completed a master's or doctoral program within the last year. A practical knowledge of English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate adaptability to an international, multicultural, and multilingual environment, possess good communication skills, and be able to work effectively in a team setting.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in or completion of a master's program in relevant fields such as social policy, health policy, health economics, public health, social protection, or other pertinent social sciences. Specialization directly related to health and social protection will be highly valued, as it aligns with the ILO's mission and the specific focus of the internship.

Experience:
While prior professional experience is not mandatory, candidates with research experience, such as a master's thesis or work as a research assistant, will be preferred. Familiarity with research methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, is essential. Experience working with developing countries on issues related to access and financing of health services will also be considered an asset, as it aligns with the ILO's focus on global labor standards and social protection.

Languages:
A practical knowledge of English is required, and proficiency in at least one of the ILO's official languages (French or Spanish) is considered an advantage. Knowledge of additional languages will be valued, as it enhances communication within the diverse international environment of the ILO.

The internship is open to individuals with disabilities, and reasonable adjustments will be made during the selection process and throughout the internship to promote equal opportunities. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of 2450 CHF, unless they are receiving funding from another institution. In such cases, the ILO will cover the difference to ensure the stipend remains at 2450 CHF. Additionally, interns will receive a monthly contribution of 45 CHF towards medical insurance costs. Candidates from underrepresented member states may be eligible for financial assistance for travel expenses to Geneva.
