Interns will be involved in research, literature reviews, and the development of knowledge products related to disability and social protection, while also collaborating with various specialists across the department.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for conducting literature reviews and research related to disability and social protection. They will assist in the development of departmental knowledge products and contribute to the design of social protection systems that are inclusive of people with disabilities. The role will require collaboration with other units within the department to address cross-cutting issues such as gender, climate change, and migration. Interns should expect to spend 10% to 20% of their time on administrative tasks, ensuring that they support the overall functioning of the Social Policy Unit. Additionally, interns will be expected to engage in discussions and contribute to policy processes that enhance the participation of people with disabilities in social protection frameworks.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in a Master's or Doctorate program or have completed such a program within the past year. A strong understanding of social protection, public policy, or related fields is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to disability inclusion and possess relevant research experience. Knowledge of social security systems and international development practices will be advantageous. Interns must also exhibit adaptability to a multicultural environment and possess strong communication skills to work effectively within a team.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should be pursuing or have recently completed a Master's degree in public administration, public policy, development studies, law, social policy, economics, econometrics, statistics, social sciences, or a related discipline. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of social protection systems and the legal frameworks that govern them.
Experience: Candidates are required to have prior experience related to disability inclusion, whether through academic research or practical exposure. Relevant work experience in social security or international development is preferred. Additional Notes: This internship is specifically designed for candidates with disabilities. The duration of the internship is six months, starting on either the 1st or the 15th of a given month. Interns will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month, with additional contributions towards medical insurance. Candidates from non- or under-represented member states may be eligible for financial assistance for travel costs to Geneva. The ILO does not charge any fees during the recruitment process, and candidates are advised to ensure their insurance coverage for the duration of the internship.
