Job Overview:
The Project Associate will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of a project aimed at achieving Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) in India. This position involves working closely with the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the National Project Management Unit (NPMU). The Project Associate will assist in various administrative and coordination tasks, ensuring effective communication among stakeholders and supporting the preparation of project documentation. The role requires a proactive approach to managing project activities and contributing to the overall success of the project, which focuses on restoring degraded landscapes and promoting sustainable land management practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Associate will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including: assisting in the preparation of project-related documents, reports, and presentations; organizing and maintaining project files; coordinating project meetings and taking minutes; handling correspondence for the NAEB/GIM Division; providing administrative support to the National Project Manager; ensuring regular communication within the NPMU and with UNDP; supporting the preparation of Annual Work Plans; arranging travel and logistics for project staff; coordinating procurement of supplies; managing project inventory; providing logistical support for workshops; following up on budget and financial documentation; processing invoices and expense claims; and supporting the preparation of various project reports.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Proficiency in project management tools and software is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a commitment to the values of the UN, including accountability, integrity, and respect for diversity. Familiarity with environmental issues and sustainable development practices will be an advantage. Additionally, candidates should be adaptable and able to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in environmental science, project management, public administration, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of sustainable development principles and practices, particularly in the context of climate change and natural resource management.

Experience:
The position requires at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in project management, administration, or a related field. Experience working with government agencies or international organizations, particularly in the context of environmental projects, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully supporting project implementation and managing stakeholder relationships.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Hindi or other regional languages will be considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in New Delhi, India. The contract duration is subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The position offers a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of INR 51,969.20, along with a one-time entry lump sum payment and relocation costs if applicable. National UN Volunteers are responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The role requires cultural sensitivity and adaptability to local customs and traditions. Comprehensive insurance coverage is provided, along with annual leave and access to learning resources.
