Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer Interpreter position is designed for individuals who are passionate about climate action and youth empowerment. The selected volunteers will utilize Zoom's interpretation tool to provide live translation from English into Spanish, French, and Arabic. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide live interpretation of the webinar from English to Spanish, French, and Arabic for a duration of 90 minutes.
  • Utilize Zoom's interpretation tool effectively to ensure clear communication during the webinar.
  • Review the provided concept note and run of show to prepare for the interpretation.
  • Follow the communications guidelines and other instructions provided by UNDP.
  • Engage with the Youth team at UNDP to understand the context and objectives of the webinar.
  • Ensure that the interpretation is accurate and conveys the intended message of the speakers.
  • Participate in any pre-webinar briefings or training sessions as required.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in English and at least one of the target languages (Spanish, French, or Arabic).
  • Experience in live interpretation or translation, particularly in a webinar or conference setting.
  • Familiarity with the topics of climate action, peace, and security, especially as they relate to youth engagement.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and adapt to dynamic situations during the webinar.

Educational Background:
A background in languages, international relations, environmental studies, or a related field is preferred. Formal training in interpretation or translation is highly desirable, although not mandatory.

Experience:
Previous experience in interpreting for webinars, conferences, or similar events is essential. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively during live events.

Languages:
Mandatory: Proficiency in English and at least one of the following languages: Spanish, French, or Arabic. Good to have: Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset.
