Established in 1919, the ILO has a mission to set international labor standards and to promote rights at work, encourage decent employment opportunities, enhance social protection, and strengthen dialogue on work-related issues. The organization operates in over 180 countries and has a diverse workforce of approximately 3,300 employees. The ILO is committed to promoting social justice and fair labor practices, and it values diversity and inclusion in its workforce.

Job Overview:
The internship program at the ILO provides an opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain practical experience in the field of international labor standards and to understand the relevant issues at the international level. Interns will be involved in the work of the Bureau and will apply the principles, programs, and strategies of the ILO. The internship is designed to enhance the intern's understanding of labor issues while providing hands-on experience related to their field of study. Interns will work under the supervision of experienced international lawyers and will participate in the preparation of documents for the ILO's supervisory bodies, including analyzing complaints and conducting preliminary reviews of national laws and practices. This role will involve substantial work related to legal research and analysis, contributing to the intern's professional development in the field of labor rights and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of documents for the ILO's supervisory bodies, which includes analyzing complaints and conducting preliminary reviews of national laws and practices. They will also engage in legal research related to the ILO's mandate, including comparative law aspects. Interns will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to discussions and projects within the team. The internship will require strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Interns will also be expected to participate in meetings and contribute to the development of reports and recommendations based on their research findings.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria to apply for the internship. They should not have any close relatives working at the ILO, and they must not have previously completed an internship at the ILO. Candidates should be enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral program or have completed such a program within the year preceding their application. A practical knowledge of English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Additionally, candidates should possess good communication skills, strong legal research and analytical abilities, and the capacity to work in a multicultural and multilingual environment. Sensitivity to gender issues and non-discriminatory attitudes are also essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes a degree in law or a related field. Candidates must be enrolled in at least a Master's program or have completed such a program within the last year. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the legal frameworks and principles that govern labor rights and standards at the international level.

Additional Notes:
The internship contract duration is between 3 to 6 months, starting on either the 1st or the 15th of the month. Interns will receive a monthly allowance of 2450 CHF, unless they receive funding from another institution. If partial funding is received, the ILO will cover the difference to ensure that the intern receives the full allowance. Additionally, interns will receive a contribution towards medical insurance costs during the internship period. Candidates from underrepresented or unrepresented member states may be eligible for special funding to cover travel expenses to Geneva. It is important to note that the ILO does not cover any costs related to accidents or illnesses that may occur during the internship, and candidates are responsible for ensuring they have adequate health and accident insurance coverage.
