Job Overview:
The position of Consultant(e) National(e) for supporting the UPS involves providing essential support services to the Policy and Strategy Unit of UNDP in Mauritania. The consultant will be expected to engage in various tasks that contribute to the effective functioning of the unit, ensuring that the strategic objectives of UNDP are met. This role is crucial as it directly impacts the implementation of policies and strategies that align with the development goals of the country. The consultant will work closely with UNDP staff and stakeholders to facilitate the execution of projects and initiatives, ensuring that they are in line with the overall mission of the organization. The position is set for a duration of six months, during which the consultant will be expected to deliver high-quality outputs and contribute to the strategic planning processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Consultant(e) National(e) will be responsible for a variety of duties including but not limited to:
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of policies and strategies that support the objectives of the UPS.
  • Conducting research and analysis to inform decision-making processes within the unit.
  • Collaborating with other UNDP teams and external partners to ensure cohesive project execution.
  • Preparing reports and presentations that summarize findings and recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Facilitating workshops and meetings to gather input and feedback from various stakeholders.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the progress of projects and initiatives, providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Supporting capacity-building efforts within the unit and among partners.
  • Ensuring compliance with UNDP procurement processes and guidelines.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development to stay updated on best practices in development and procurement.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong set of qualifications to be considered for this position. This includes a proven track record in project management, policy development, and strategic planning. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Familiarity with UNDP's operational procedures and procurement processes is highly desirable. Candidates should also exhibit strong problem-solving abilities and a commitment to the principles of sustainable development.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as international relations, public administration, business administration, or a related discipline is required. A master’s degree in a relevant field would be an advantage. Candidates should have a solid understanding of development issues and the role of international organizations in addressing these challenges.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in areas such as project management, policy analysis, or strategic planning. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP or similar entities, is highly valued. Demonstrated experience in conducting research and analysis, as well as in facilitating stakeholder engagement, will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Mauritania. Proficiency in English is also highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with international stakeholders and partners. Knowledge of Arabic would be an additional asset, enhancing the consultant's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of six months. The consultant will be expected to work full-time, and the position is open to both national and international candidates. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and benefits may include professional development opportunities and access to UNDP resources.
