Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is within the Application Management Services (AMS) branch of the ILO's Information and Technology Department (INFOTEC). This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and data management, directly contributing to the ILO's mission of promoting decent work and social justice. Interns will engage in various projects that involve the exploration and implementation of AI solutions to enhance workplace efficiency and optimize data utilization across the organization. The internship is designed to provide practical experience related to the intern's field of study, allowing them to work closely with IT specialists, data analysts, and business application teams. Interns will also have the chance to participate in initiatives aimed at digital transformation, working with cutting-edge technologies to support the ILO's objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: developing AI use cases by identifying and drafting relevant applications for different business units; assisting in data analysis and reporting by extracting, transforming, and visualizing data to support evidence-based decision-making; exploring AI-assisted coding and automation tools to aid in software development and workflow automation; researching and testing AI tools that enhance workplace communication and document processing; collaborating with business units to understand operational challenges and explore AI-based solutions to improve efficiency. Interns will also be expected to contribute to the development of prototypes that integrate AI into coding, collaboration, and workflow automation processes, thereby gaining practical insights into the application of AI in real-world business contexts.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet several qualifications to be considered for the internship. They should not have any close relatives working at the ILO, must not have previously interned at the ILO, and must be enrolled in or have completed a Master's or Doctoral program within the past year. A practical knowledge of English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate adaptability to an international, multicultural, and multilingual environment, possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and have the ability to communicate complex AI and data concepts clearly and practically. Teamwork and a motivation to explore AI innovations in real business contexts are also essential.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in or completion of a Master's program in fields such as Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics, Information Technology, or a related technical area. Candidates with degrees in engineering or business administration with a strong focus on data, AI, or digital transformation will also be considered. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of the role and contributing effectively to the projects undertaken during the internship.
Experience: Candidates are expected to have prior coursework or practical experience in AI, machine learning, automation, or data analysis. Familiarity with AI applications in business processes, such as workflow automation, knowledge management, or digital collaboration, is advantageous. Experience in coding and scripting languages such as Python, R, SQL, or JavaScript is beneficial, as is an understanding of cloud-based AI services, open-source AI frameworks, or chatbot development. This experience will enable interns to engage meaningfully with the technical aspects of the projects they will be involved in.
Languages: A professional working proficiency in English, both oral and written, is required for this position. Knowledge of other official ILO languages, such as French or Spanish, is considered an asset. Given that all ILO systems and data are in English, a strong command of the language is highly desirable to ensure effective communication and understanding of the materials and tasks involved in the internship.
Additional Notes: The internship contract duration is between 3 to 6 months, starting on either the 1st or the 15th of the month. Interns will receive a monthly allowance of 2450 CHF, unless they are receiving funding from another institution, in which case the ILO will cover the difference to ensure the intern receives the full amount. Additionally, interns will receive a contribution of 45 CHF per month towards medical insurance costs during the internship period. Candidates from underrepresented or non-represented member states may be eligible for special funding to cover travel expenses to Geneva. It is important to note that the ILO does not cover any accident or illness-related expenses during the internship, and candidates must ensure they have adequate health and accident insurance coverage for the duration of their internship.
