The internship is designed to enhance understanding of international labor issues while providing hands-on experience in the field of information technology and data management. Interns will work within the Application Management Services (AMS) branch of the Information & Technology Management Department (INFOTEC), focusing on AI and data innovation. This role will involve collaborating with IT specialists and data analysts to explore AI-driven solutions that improve workplace efficiency and optimize data utilization.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: identifying and drafting AI use cases tailored to different business units; assisting in data extraction, transformation, and visualization; exploring AI-enhanced programming tools for software development; researching AI tools that enhance workplace communication; engaging with business units to understand operational challenges; conducting research on AI trends; analyzing business processes for automation opportunities; developing AI-powered prototypes; enhancing reporting and data visualization tools; collaborating with business units to gather requirements; and contributing to discussions on AI and data governance.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in or have completed a Master's or Doctorate program within the last year in fields such as Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics, Information Technology, or related technical fields. Candidates with backgrounds in Engineering or Business Administration with a strong focus on data, AI, or digital transformation will also be considered. Additionally, candidates should possess strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, as well as the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this internship is a Master's degree or Doctorate in relevant fields such as Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics, Information Technology, or related technical fields. Candidates who have completed their studies within the past year are also eligible to apply. Backgrounds in Engineering or Business Administration with a focus on data and digital transformation are also acceptable.
Experience: Candidates should have prior coursework or hands-on experience in AI, machine learning, automation, or data analytics. Familiarity with AI applications in business processes, including workflow automation and knowledge management, is advantageous. Experience in coding and scripting languages such as Python, R, SQL, or JavaScript is beneficial, as is an understanding of cloud-based AI services and chatbot development.
Languages: A working proficiency in English (both oral and written) is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other ILO official languages, such as French or Spanish, is considered an asset. Fluency in English is particularly important as all ILO systems and data are primarily in English.
Additional Notes: The internship is expected to last between 3 to 6 months, starting on either the 1st or the 15th of a given month. Interns will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month, with additional contributions towards medical insurance. Candidates from non- or under-represented countries may be eligible for financial assistance for travel costs to Geneva. The ILO does not charge any fees during the recruitment process, and candidates are responsible for their own insurance coverage during the internship.
