Job Overview:
This position involves consultancy work focused on the analysis and monitoring of public policies related to biodiversity in Costa Rica. The consultant will be responsible for updating the National Biodiversity Strategy (ENB) and ensuring that the policies align with current environmental standards and practices. The role requires a deep understanding of biodiversity issues, policy frameworks, and the ability to analyze data and trends in public policy. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations, to gather insights and feedback on biodiversity policies. The position is expected to last for nine months, starting from the signing of the contract, and will require the consultant to engage in both fieldwork and desk research to provide comprehensive analysis and recommendations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough analysis of existing public policies related to biodiversity in Costa Rica.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of these policies in achieving biodiversity goals.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather data and insights on biodiversity issues.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations on findings and recommendations for policy updates.
  • Facilitate workshops and meetings to discuss policy implications and gather feedback.
  • Ensure that all analyses are aligned with international biodiversity standards and frameworks.
  • Provide ongoing support and advice to government agencies on biodiversity policy matters.
  • Stay updated on global trends and best practices in biodiversity policy and conservation efforts.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven expertise in biodiversity policy analysis and monitoring.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in Spanish and English.
  • Experience working with government agencies and NGOs in the field of biodiversity.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Familiarity with international biodiversity frameworks and conventions.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Environmental Science, Public Policy, Biodiversity Conservation, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in biodiversity management or policy analysis will be considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in biodiversity policy analysis, environmental management, or related fields is required. Experience working with international organizations or in a consultancy role is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, while proficiency in English is highly desirable. Knowledge of other languages relevant to the region may be considered an advantage.

Additional Notes:
This is a consultancy position for an individual contractor, and the contract will last for nine months from the date of signing. The position is full-time, and the consultant will be expected to work both in the field and remotely as necessary.
