Job Overview: The National Biodiversity Monitoring and Reporting Specialist will play a crucial role in the assessment and reporting of biodiversity within Jordan. This position is designed for an individual contractor who will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive biodiversity monitoring framework. The specialist will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities, to ensure effective data collection and reporting on biodiversity indicators. The role requires a deep understanding of biodiversity issues, as well as the ability to analyze and interpret data to inform policy decisions. The specialist will also be expected to contribute to capacity-building efforts and promote awareness of biodiversity conservation among stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a national biodiversity monitoring framework that aligns with international standards and best practices.
Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to identify key biodiversity indicators and establish data collection protocols.
Conduct field assessments and surveys to gather data on biodiversity status and trends.
Analyze and interpret biodiversity data to produce comprehensive reports and recommendations.
Facilitate workshops and training sessions to build capacity among stakeholders in biodiversity monitoring and reporting.
Ensure that biodiversity data is integrated into national and local development plans and policies.
Prepare and submit regular progress reports to UNDP and other relevant entities.
Engage with local communities to promote biodiversity conservation initiatives and gather traditional ecological knowledge.
Required Qualifications:
Proven expertise in biodiversity monitoring and reporting, with a strong understanding of ecological principles and methodologies.
Experience in working with government agencies, NGOs, and local communities on biodiversity-related projects.
Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis software.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
Knowledge of relevant national and international biodiversity policies and frameworks.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or a related field is required. A PhD in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Additional certifications in biodiversity monitoring or conservation would also be beneficial.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in biodiversity monitoring, conservation, or related fields is required. Experience working in the Middle East or similar ecological contexts is preferred. Proven track record of managing projects and working with diverse stakeholders is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities. Knowledge of other languages relevant to the region would be an asset.
Additional Notes: The position is for a contract duration of 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. This is a full-time position, and the contractor will be expected to work closely with UNDP and other partners in Jordan.
