The International Labour Organization (ILO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that aims to promote social justice and fair labor practices. Established in 1919, the ILO has a mission to ensure that labor standards are upheld globally, providing a platform for dialogue among governments, employers, and workers. The organization operates in over 180 countries and has a diverse workforce of approximately 3,300 employees. The ILO is committed to promoting decent work for all, focusing on issues such as employment, social protection, and rights at work.

Job Overview:
The internship program at the ILO offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience in international labor issues while contributing to the organization's mission. Interns will engage directly in the work of the ILO, participating in the implementation of principles, programs, and strategies that address labor and employment challenges globally. This position is designed for candidates who are currently enrolled in or have recently completed a master's or doctoral program, providing them with a chance to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting. Interns will work closely with various departments and may be involved in multiple sectors, enhancing their understanding of the complexities of labor issues across different industries.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be expected to assist in various tasks, including but not limited to: supporting international meetings that foster dialogue among sectoral constituents regarding emerging labor issues; assisting in the development and dissemination of knowledge on new challenges and trends within specific sectors through data collection, analysis, and report writing; participating in efforts to promote the application of international labor standards, particularly those relevant to specific sectors; preparing communication and promotional materials related to decent work initiatives; helping to strengthen the capacity of governments and employers' and workers' organizations to promote decent work at the national level through development cooperation, advice, and training; and contributing to policy coherence on key sectoral issues through strategic partnerships with other UN agencies and multilateral organizations. Interns will also dedicate 10-20% of their time to administrative tasks.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet several qualifications to be considered for the internship. They should have a background in labor issues relevant to one of the following industrial sectors: agriculture, construction, food and beverage, forestry, pulp and paper, or hospitality and tourism. Additionally, candidates must be enrolled in a master's program or have completed such a program within the past year. A practical knowledge of English, both oral and written, is mandatory, while proficiency in at least one of the ILO's official languages (French or Spanish) is considered an advantage. Candidates should also demonstrate adaptability to an international, multicultural, and multilingual environment, possess strong communication skills, and be able to work effectively in a team setting.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this internship include being enrolled in or having recently completed a master's or doctoral program. Candidates should have pursued studies or research related to labor issues within specific industrial sectors such as agriculture, construction, food and beverage, forestry, pulp and paper, or hospitality and tourism. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities and challenges faced in these sectors.

Experience:
Candidates are expected to have some level of work experience related to labor issues in the aforementioned industrial sectors. This could include internships, volunteer work, or relevant projects that demonstrate an understanding of the challenges and dynamics within these fields. Additionally, proficiency in standard MS Office products (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is required, and experience in database creation in collaboration with programmers is valued.

Languages:
A practical knowledge of English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in at least one of the ILO's official languages, which include French and Spanish, is considered advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
The internship contract will last between 3 to 6 months, starting on either the 1st or the 15th of the month. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of 2450 CHF, unless they are receiving funding from another institution, in which case the ILO will cover the difference to ensure the stipend remains at 2450 CHF. Interns will also receive an additional 45 CHF per month to contribute towards medical insurance costs during the internship period. Candidates from underrepresented or insufficiently represented member states may be eligible for financial assistance for travel expenses to Geneva. It is important to note that candidates cannot have any close relatives working at the ILO, must not have previously interned at the ILO, and must be enrolled in or have completed a master's or doctoral program within the last year. The ILO does not charge any fees during the application process and advises candidates to be cautious of fraudulent communications.
