Job Overview: The Laboratory Analyst position is crucial for coordinating lab-related interventions under the Global Fund Cycle-7 grant. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Project Manager and the Procurement and Supply ChainManagement Specialist. The role involves collaboration with various national health programs and stakeholders, including the National Tuberculosis Programme, the National Public Health Laboratory, and the National Centre for AIDS and STD Control. The Laboratory Analyst will ensure effective implementation of interventions related to HIV, TB, and Malaria, and will focus on institutional strengthening of the National Public Health Laboratory. The position requires a proactive approach to managing laboratory diagnostics and ensuring compliance with WHO guidelines and national protocols. The Laboratory Analyst will also be responsible for maintaining quality control and assurance in laboratory services, managing sample handling and laboratory equipment maintenance, and supporting knowledge building initiatives related to lab system strengthening.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Laboratory Analyst will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Coordinating diagnostic system interventions by verifying Certificates of Analysis and ensuring conformity with product specifications.
Monitoring laboratory activities and ensuring compliance with WHO recommendations.
Facilitating the procurement process for laboratory equipment and supplies.
Supporting national counterparts in updating laboratory protocols and guidelines.
Participating in proficiency testing programs to maintain laboratory performance standards.
Maintaining accurate records of test results and deviations.
Assisting partners in rationalizing laboratory services according to quality assurance standards.
Ensuring proper sample management and compliance with laboratory protocols.
Maintaining a Quality Management System to ensure compliance with laboratory standards. 1
Supporting the preparation of laboratory audit reports and corrective action plans. 1
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the aforementioned fields, combined with an additional 2 years of relevant experience, will also be considered. The role requires a strong understanding of laboratory practices and standards, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders in the health sector.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related field. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in these fields, along with relevant experience, may also be considered. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of laboratory diagnostics and health program implementation.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience is required for candidates with a master's degree, or 4 years for those with a bachelor's degree. This experience should be in laboratory system strengthening interventions within national or international organizations or the public health sector. Familiarity with analytical instruments and knowledge of Nepal’s regulatory framework and global laboratory standards are also essential.
Languages: Fluency in English and Nepali is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, but is not mandatory.
