Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The International Labour Organization (ILO) was established in 1919 and is a specialized agency of the United Nations that aims to promote social justice and fair labor standards. The ILO has a mission to promote decent work for all women and men, and it operates in over 180 countries with a diverse workforce of around 3,300 employees. The organization focuses on various aspects of labor rights, including the promotion of social protection, the creation of jobs, and the enhancement of working conditions. The ILO is committed to fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their background, have equal opportunities in the workplace.

Job Overview:
The internship program at the ILO offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience in the field of international labor standards and policies. Interns will engage directly with the work of the ILO, contributing to the implementation of its principles, programs, and strategies. The internship is designed to enhance the understanding of relevant international issues while providing hands-on experience related to the intern's field of study. Interns will work within the Cooperative, Social and Solidarity Economy Unit, which is part of the Sustainable Enterprises Department. This department is dedicated to promoting sustainable enterprises to achieve the ILO's goal of social justice through decent work. Interns will have the chance to collaborate with various stakeholders, including educational institutions and other partners, to support the development and adaptation of training resources and tools.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be expected to assist in various tasks related to the promotion of decent work through cooperatives and other entities in the social and solidarity economy. This includes maintaining collaborative relationships with the International Training Centre of the ILO and other cooperative education and training institutions. Interns will also support the identification of training needs and contribute to the development, updating, and adaptation of training resources, tools, and activities. Additionally, interns will be involved in monitoring and evaluating training and capacity-building initiatives. A portion of their time, between 10% and 20%, will be dedicated to administrative tasks to support the unit's operations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet specific qualifications to be eligible for the internship. They should not have any close relatives working at the ILO, must not have previously interned at the ILO, and should be enrolled in or have completed a master's or doctoral program within the last year. A practical knowledge of English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Furthermore, candidates should possess analytical skills and be able to utilize qualitative and quantitative research methods. They should also demonstrate the ability to identify sources and develop data collection methods, as well as have strong writing skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes a bachelor's degree in Economics, Business Administration, Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, or a related field. Candidates must be enrolled in a master's program or have completed such a program within the past year to qualify for the internship.

Experience:
Candidates should have experience in supporting the design, adaptation, or implementation of educational or training programs, preferably related to cooperative development. Familiarity with adult learning methodologies and digital tools for communication, knowledge management, or online collaboration will be considered an asset. This experience will help interns effectively contribute to the ILO's mission and objectives during their internship.

Languages:
A practical knowledge of at least two of the ILO's official languages (English, French, Spanish) is required. Proficiency in a third ILO language or another United Nations language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian) will be considered advantageous. This linguistic capability is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the multicultural environment of the ILO.

Additional Notes:
The internship contract duration is between 3 to 6 months, starting on either the 1st or the 15th of the month. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of 2450 CHF, unless they receive funding from another institution. If partial funding is received, the ILO will cover the difference to ensure the intern receives the full stipend. Additionally, interns will receive a contribution of 45 CHF per month towards medical insurance expenses during the internship period. Qualified candidates from underrepresented countries may benefit from a special fund that provides financial assistance for travel expenses to Geneva. It is important to note that the ILO does not cover any expenses incurred during the internship due to accidents or illness, and interns are required to have personal health and accident insurance valid throughout their internship.
