Job Overview:
The position involves supporting the Ministry of Health and partners in Syria to develop a National Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Strategy. This strategy aims to address the nutritional needs of women and children in Syria, which have been severely impacted by the ongoing humanitarian crisis. The consultant will engage in a comprehensive analysis of the current nutrition situation, develop a strategic framework, and facilitate multisectoral collaboration to achieve global nutrition goals. The role requires a deep understanding of public health policies and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders to advocate for nutrition as a priority in the recovery and development efforts in Syria.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of the nutrition situation of women and children in Syria, including desk reviews and field visits to gather data and insights.
  • Develop a comprehensive National Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Strategy that outlines the goals, strategies, and actions needed to improve nutrition outcomes.
  • Create a theory of change that links strategies to desired outcomes, ensuring alignment with global nutrition goals.
  • Define measurable results and indicators to track progress and impact of the nutrition strategy.
  • Draft and consolidate the nutrition strategy document, incorporating feedback from stakeholders.
  • Prepare high-level advocacy materials to communicate the strategy to government officials, donors, and partners.
  • Collaborate with various sectors, including health, education, and social protection, to ensure a holistic approach to nutrition.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Master’s degree in public health, nutrition, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree with additional relevant experience may be accepted.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in policy and strategy development, particularly in public health or nutrition.
  • Proven ability to develop technical documents and communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience in multisectoral collaboration.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in public health, nutrition, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with at least 2 years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience, particularly in policy and strategy development related to public health and nutrition. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in developing public health policies at both global and country levels, showcasing their ability to navigate complex health systems and advocate for effective strategies.

Languages:
Fluency in English (both written and verbal) is mandatory. Knowledge of Arabic is also required, as it is essential for effective communication with local stakeholders and partners.
