Job Overview: The Photographer Consultant will play a crucial role in enhancing UN Women's visual storytelling and communication activities. This position involves working closely with the UN Women Communications team to produce high-quality visual content, including photographs and short videos, that effectively communicate the organization's key achievements and activities. The consultant will be responsible for capturing and editing images that reflect the empowerment of women and girls, ensuring that all visual content aligns with UN Women's Photo Policy. The role requires creativity and an understanding of current photo trends to convey messages through impactful imagery. The consultant will also be tasked with sourcing images from external photo banks and ensuring appropriate usage rights are secured for all visual content produced.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Photographer Consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Collaborating with the UN Women Communications team to understand project briefs and deliver high-quality visual content.
Capturing, modifying, revising, and editing photographs and short videos that highlight UN Women's achievements and activities.
Delivering a minimum of 30 high-quality photos from each assignment, with individual captions embedded in the metadata.
Providing original images in RAW format and processed images in JPEG format at a maximum resolution of 300 dpi.
Selecting and purchasing images and videos from external photo stocks as needed.
Preparing final files for distribution across various platforms, including social media and print materials.
Following UN Women Photo Policy and ensuring that all images reflect the organization's values and principles.
Carrying out ad-hoc photo service requests as directed by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Photographer Consultant position should possess the following qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in design, communications, visual arts, visual content production, film-making, or a related field.
A technical degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
At least two years of professional experience in photography, with a portfolio showcasing completed work.
Experience working with national or international NGOs or UN agencies is considered an asset.
Proficiency in photo editing software, including Adobe Photoshop Express and Lightroom CC.
Availability of specialized photography equipment, including cameras, lenses, and editing software.
Educational Background: Candidates must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as design, communications, visual arts, or film-making. Alternatively, a technical degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the bachelor’s degree. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary skills and knowledge to produce high-quality visual content that meets UN Women's standards.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in photography. Candidates should have a proven track record of producing high-quality visual content, particularly in contexts related to gender equality and women's empowerment. Experience working with national or international NGOs or UN agencies is highly desirable, as it demonstrates an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in this field. Additionally, candidates should have a strong portfolio that showcases their photography skills and creativity, as well as at least three references who can provide recommendations based on their previous work.
Languages: Fluency in Ukrainian is mandatory, and proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN working languages is considered an asset, as it may enhance communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders within the organization and beyond.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is based in Kyiv, and any required travel will be covered separately according to UN Women Travel Policy. The position is expected to be part-time or project-based, with specific deliverables and timelines set for each assignment.
