Job Overview: This internship is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience in the Office of the Director of the Programme Planning and Budget Division (PPBD) within the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The selected intern will engage in various tasks that support the design, development, delivery, and maintenance of data-driven products aimed at facilitating change management initiatives. The role is full-time and in-person, requiring a commitment of up to 35 hours per week. The internship is unpaid and is expected to last for four months, with the possibility of extension up to six months depending on departmental needs. Interns will gain hands-on experience in project management and will be expected to start in May 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include: supporting the development and maintenance of a strategic organizational tool for the Division using Microsoft Project or similar software; collaborating with different teams to identify key priorities and dependencies; documenting workflows and analyzing processes to provide actionable recommendations; tracking project progress and reporting on key milestones; organizing and maintaining program-related documentation and databases; conducting data collection and analysis to evaluate program performance; working closely with team members to develop Standard Operating Procedures, guidelines, and best practices; and monitoring discussions and responding to inquiries in a timely manner.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must also demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as strong planning and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Project or similar software, along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Slido, and Zoom, is essential. Knowledge of project management principles and process mapping is also required.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. Experience with planning virtual events and knowledge of metrics and reporting will be advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and candidates are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. For non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents, obtaining a G-4 visa is mandatory for full-time internships.
